riiOHlBlTIOSlSTS IS MASSACRO SETTS.
THE STATE CONVENTION AT WOnCMTEB TO-DAY?
DKI.EOATK8 ARIUMNO.
Worcrste?, Mass., Sept. 0 {Special).? The advance
ffrard of delegate? to to-morrow*? Prohibition State
Convention arrived In town ?Ale afternoon. ea<:h dele
rate wearl ne on the lapel of hla coat a tiny braa? orank
pinned over a bit of blue ribbon. Only a amnil portion
of the delegates have arrived tilla evening. It la eon
tl'l'iiflv expected that over 1,000 delegate? will bo pres?
ent tomorrow.
There la considerable diesati? faction amone tho ultra
temperance men of the Republican party because the
last Legislature did not submit the question of constitu?
tional prohibition to tho people. This will have a tend?
ency to draw many votea to the Prohibition party this
fall which would be caat for Republican candidate? were
there any National issues Involved.
The chief Interest In the prooeedlnes of to-morrow's
convention, apart from the usual fight over tbe make up
and powers of the State Central Committee, will be in
reference to the woman suffrago question. It baa been
?the custom for the rroblbltlonists In thla State to Insert
? plank In tho platform approving woman suffrage; but
this year some of ihe leaders are Inclined to Ignore this
ls?ae in order to present the oanse of Prohibition pure
aud simple. The greater purt of the delegatea who are
now here aprear to f;ivor standing by th?suffragists.
There is little discussion of candidates, and aa for the
organization of tbe convention, that was decided long
ago by the State Committee. William II. Karle, of this
city, will be permanent presiding officer, and the Rev.
Jaiuns F. Orar, of Boston, will tie chairman of the Com?
mittee on Resolutions. Dr. John Rlaekmsr, o( Spring?
field, will probably bo nominated for Governor, Thomas
J.Lathrop, or Tau ii ? m, last year's candidate, baviug
d ci ned renominatlon. There will probahly be a bullot,
however, aa the friends of Kdward Kendall, a Cambridge
manufacturer will present his nama
There Is no sign of a conteat for the other place? on
tbe ticket, as nobody seema to care particularly for the
empty hounra. If Blackmer Is nominated for Governor
Mr. Kendall will probably be r? named tor Ueutouan'
