THE TRADE IX CHIC AGO.
Chicago, March IS (Special).— was more of
a wheat market to-day than there has bc<?n in a
mor-'h. prices gaining 1\ >C - to l«4c. and closlnj at
the top May Bold at 75% c and at 76%(\ and closed
fit 7«*je. The bull Influences •were of the most
fubeumia! sort— large export Fales. heavy clear
»a«t. high- r cables and broadening speculation.
The cash business was put as high as 300.030 bush
els, almost all the cash people doing some, and
mrjr kind cf wheat being sold. The clearances
were B6A«'. bushels, and the clearances for the
week almost double last year's— 4.7oo.ooo bushels.
•gainst ;>>.,v. bushels. Argentine shipments were
lees than half a year 1.248.000 bushels, against
2.C5.000 bushels. Western receipts were less than last
yetr. Liverpool was >fd to %d higher. The close
*a« at the top. in spite of very heavy profit taking
by Phillips and come of the other bulls. Shorts
•ere probably the best buyers, notably the South
western traders. The seaboard reported 15 loads.
Corn prices pained %c and held most of It. May
¦old at E»4c and at «%c. and closed at 41' 2 c to «%e.
The outsider Is buying the July. Increasing the trade
la it. July at one time to-day was J4c over the
May, and closed at the same price. There was a lot
of profit taking by the local bulls; the best buyers
were the Interests which represent the seaboard
exporters. Shipping pales were at. least 500.000
bushels. Liverpool was He to *id higher. Country
offerings were small. Of 262 cars here 34 'graded
contract; the estimate for to-morrow 330 cars. Ar
gentine shipments were 200.000 bushels. Exports
from America for the week were 3,246.000 bushels.
Patten continues bearish. The seaboard reported
« leads.
Oats sympathized in a email way with corn, ad
?tncing when it turned' strong, but lagging. The
cats discount under corn to-night is 16%0. May sold
at 25c and at ;.v c, and closed at 25'uc to 25^ic. There
'ere 178 cars, with ISO estimated for to-morrow;
•nipping sales were 75,000 bushels. Phillips was
the best buyer, and the professionals feel that the
oats discount under corn will increase if the bull
campaign in the latter grain keeps up.
Flaxseed was easy, with the changes small. May
closed at n ;,:\. compared with $1 51»j yesterday.
Cash seed mas 1152. There were 28 cars of seed
here, agalntt 23 cars last year.
Provisions regained the loss they made on Thurs
day, and did even a little better. Pork shows 25c
over last night, lard and ribs. 7i±c to 10c over. The
Cudahys seem disposed to sell their May lard and
cuy July at September. The packers keep bullish:
they were buyers in a moderate way to-day. The
f=a'J hog receipts and the cash demand are the
.nfluene**. There were only IS.OOO here, and only
lt ' m estimated for Saturday.
