TRADE IN CHICAGO.
Chicago. Sept. 9 (Special).— Corn to-night is %c
higher than Saturday. The buying 1 was by the
leading bull houses. There was the "point" that
the government report to-morrow would make the
condition 51. against M last month. The buying
was based on this. September opened at F-V^c,
sold between . 55Vic and sCfsCi and closed at ss%e;
December closed at 57T«c: May. 59% c sellers. Liv
erpool was higher, although there had been a
decline here Saturday. The general pit mood was
rather bearish, but corn prices were influenced by
the favorable news from Buffalo, and also by the
higher prices in Wall Street. - Primary receipts
were less than last year, a reversal of the recent
situation. The corn bulls were encouraged by this
falling off. There was no frost, and some of the
Southwestern States had good rains: but there
were lower temperatures in the extreme North,
serving to keep the pit nervous. The shipping de
mand was slow, less than 50,000 bushels sold, and
only eight loads at the seaboard. Clearances were
254,000 bushel?. The visible Increased 447,000 bush
els; the Chicago , stock, 6,969,000 bushels, decreased
303,000 bushels. There was a decrease on passage
of 568,000 bushels. The inspection was 390 cars; the
estimate for Tuesday. 410 cars. Much depends on
to-morrow's government figures. «
Wheat closed ,4c to %c over Saturday. It was
helped by corn, by the improved condition of the
President and by the advance of securities. De
cember opened at 70% c, sold between 70% c and
TIVsC. and closed at 71c; September closed at 68^40;
May. 74% c sellers. Liverpool was %d higher.
Clearances were 1,057,000 bushels. Primary receipts
were the same as last year, large arrivals in the
Northwest offset by small in the Southwest. A
moderate shipping business was done — 125,000 bush
els No. 2 red. The seaboard reported 10 loads. The
visible increased 650,000 bushels. The Chicago
stock, 4,852,000 bushels, increased 155,000 bushels.
There was a decrease on passage of 2,008,000 bush
els. World's shipments were 7,472,000 bushels.
The speculative trade was small— some selling by
the Northwest some buying by the Southwest.
Cash people declared the export demand poor, in
view of the supply and low freight.
Oats were quiet, steadied by corn. The close
was the same as Saturday's to %c higher. Sep
tember 33% and May 37% c sellers. Nothing was
done for shipment. The inspection was 214 cars
with 235 for Tuesday. Oats traders watched the
corn fluctuations. Exports the last week aggre
gated only 42,000 bushels, against over 1,500,000 last
year. The visible increased 477,000 bushels, and the
local stock, 1,010,000 bushels, increased 110,000 bush
els.
Flaxseed advanced 4c to 50, influenced by the
cooler weather in the Northwest and by the talk
of Argentine damage. Cash closed at $144 to $145;
September, ?1 44, and October, Jl 40. Oil is steadier
at <2c.
• Provisions were strong, with the Cudahys the
buyers. Pork advanced 20c to 30c, lard be to 12i/ip
and ribs 7*ic to 10c.' Offerings were small. Hogs
were 5c higher. The Cudahy buying was the feat
ure. They are the leading longs.
