LARGE! ORDERS FOR STEEL. KAILS.— la
understood that one of the leading Eastern rail
roads will make a contract with the United States
Steel Corporation within the next few weeks for
the largrcst order of steel rails that has ever been
received by the corporation at the schedule price
of $2S a ton. It Is understood that the. United
States Steel Corporation Is now working its plants
to their capacity.
GREAT NORTHERNS DECREASE IN EARN
lNGS.—Earnings of the Great Northern system for
October show a decrease of $1*9.654, as compared
■with the same month a year ago. Krom July 1 the
decreaie amounts to 1557.898.
STEEL RAIL PRICES.— Is understood that the
Stt-el Rail Association will meet the first week in
December, and that the schedule of prices will be
maintained at $"S a. ton. despite reports from Pitts
bursr that the rate will be reduced to $26.
OFFERS OF RAILROAD BONDS. — Joseph
"Walker & Sons offer to investors a list of high
ETH.de railroad bonds, yielding: from 3.67 to 4.48 per
cent.
MALTING DIRECTORS RE-ELECTED.— At the
UUUMJ meeting of the stockholders of the American
Malting Company In Jersey City yesterday the re
tiring board of directors was re-elected, with the
exception of Frederick Vhlmann. C. W. Goodyear,
r. D. S. Bethune and A. Tag, whose places wens
filled by J. C. McClune. E. If. F. Miller. Albert M.
Tarlin and A. .Murray Young.
DISSOLVING RATIFIED.— The stockholders of
tha American Grass Products Company have vojed
to dissolve the corporation and have ratified th«
action of the officers and directors in the steps
taken to wind up the corporation's affairs and dis
pose of its assets.
OUTSIDE SECURITIES.
The market for outside securities, while* ieM
spectacular than on Wednesday, was considerably
broader and was strong In tone, the Improvement
in prices, as a rule, ranging from fractions to over
1 par cent. One of this features of the market
was the more extensive dealing in the bond Issues.
American Tobacco 4s. Mexican government 4s and
Erie 4s furnished the bulk of the trading In this
department. The Initial trading In the Oregon
Snort Line new 4s took place when two bonds were
sold at 97. Among the stocks Montreal and Boston
was the most prominent Issue, the volume of trad
ing running up to a high figure. The stock devel
oped decided ftrength. with sales being made as
nigh as II 3 *. American < an Issues were compara
tively quiet, with the total transactions amounting
to less than one-sixth of Wednesday's volume The
price was also slightly lower. The copper stocks
as a rule, came in for a good deal of attention and
were strong-. Tennessee, advancing from 32 to 35
while Greene Consolidated scored a gain of nearly
a point. Northern Securities fluctuated within ex
tremely narrow limits on light trading Ii ter
borough Rapid Transit sold up to 153U but later
lost *<. per cent. International Mercantile Marine
issues were firm. Standard Oil furnished about the
2S 1 ? lk ;f^ ,-"' , in the list and sold down from
xAI to Mfc though it later made a. partial recovery
T^e .extreme loss In this issue amounted to about
(points. Seaboard Air Line received a good deal
o. attention and advanced fractionally, the common

American Tobacco preferred when issued paired
