Chicago, Dee. S7.— Extreme dulness rested on th*
■wheat market all through the session, and the
underlying sentiment was bearish. Closing prices
were %c to V:O lower. A feature of the late trade In
corn was the buying of new Btyla December con
tracts by ehorts. Both the old and the new style
contracts closed He higher. May corn showed
improvement, finally. Oats left off at Me advance
for May and %<0 to »»c for December.
There was no trace to-day of yesterday's bullish
ness In the wheat market, ar.d the weakness was
due to bearish conditions which developed In the
Northwest as the result of the heavy movement
there and a slack cash demand. L«ocal receipts
were S4 cars, as compared with S7 the same day
last year. Estimate for to-morrow's receipts was 9
cars. Tne highest lor December was B%c; the low
est. SC'sc; the close was 82% c. May closed at STftc
to 87ViC after selling as low as SS^ic to S6 T 4c.
An easier tone characterized the corn market In
th- little trade that was transacted, but general
dulness prevailed. The downward trend was due
to the unexpectedly heavy arrivals. Local receipts
were 654 cars, of which 122 were contract grade.
Shipments hence were MC.OOO bushels. Estimate of
to-morrow's receipts was 2*-2 cars. December closed
at the top. 45Hc. The lowest was 4%-:. May sold
from 44 l . s o to 44*sc, closing at the latter price.
The market for oats was again dull and without
feature, trade being exceedingly light, and fluctua
tions within a rat.go of Ka There was Uttle bus;.
ness in the sample market, prices being steady to
lie higher. Shipments hence were 2S2.f«X> bushels.
December closed at the top, U%O, after selling us
low as 30»»c. May sold from Kt%e tr> 31*10, to 31 7 j to
320. closing at the latter price.
Provisions were active, selling at a lower range of
prices. The easier rjiarket for hogs caused consid
erable seillng in a realizing way, and later the
packers pounded the market. Swift and Cudahy
being credited with the heaviest Bales. At one time
the market showed slims of recovering on buying
by a prominent train trader, but the packers satls
rt-d this fetnand and price* continued to rule wen*.
May pork 5.1.l from Jl3 70 off to tUM to *'■-•■■;-,
May lard sold from W45 to 17 40. May ribs sold
from $7 35 off to *7 30. Bo« receipts were 3«,0u0 he*d.
au<ir prices at the yards were »c lower.
