Good JVork in Garden.
Over three thousand people gathered in Madi
son Square Garden last i.icht to see the games
held under the auspices of the Paatline Athletic
Club. Several <>f the athletes who will take
part In tht- Olympic mes nt Athens next month
vrrre entered In the contents.
The work of Ar.iile Huhu, of the Milwaukee
AU-iletir Club, J. S. Mitchell, of the Xew-Tork
Athletic Club, and Oeorg-e V. Bonhag, of the
Irish-American Athletic Club, waa the most ron-
Bpicooas. Hahn won the 6»-yard Amateur Ath
letic Union champtocship, while Mitchell won
the f>o-pound weight throw for height for the
Amateur Aihlt-ti'- Vnion championship, and
Bonhag the three-kilometre run.
W. A. Bhlck, jr.. and Harry 1.. Hillman, of
the New-Tork Athletic Club, were scheduled
to take X'^n In the games, hut Bhlck could not
appear, owing to a slight cold, nmi Hlllman
could iu>t attend on account of the Hod -;iinent
games in Brooklyn, in which he was entered.
Harvey Cohn and Charles Bacon, the two Olym
pic games candidate* of the Amerii-an Ath
letic Club, asktd to be excused from competing
in the games, as they desired to take part In
the H.'Jd Regiment games, but the registration
committee of the Amateur Athletic Union would
r.ot grant this permission. Both started in the
1/iOO-yard run, but quit after running a few laps.
The contests were run on a dirt track, which
was responsible for the slow time made In most
of the events. At the games of the Xew-York
Athletic Plub last Tuesday night the arena wnn
covered wiih a board flooring, which has been
taken up for the circus this week. Notwith
standing the contests for the Amateur Athletic
Union championships, the eport was not eo In
teresting as the rcury Foot games.
One of the best races was the sixty-yard dash
for the Amateur Athletic Union championship.
Archie Hahn, P. .T Callahan, of the New-York
Athletic Club; J. J. Danaher. of the Xavier Ath
letic Club, and '■'■ IV Eaton, of Cambridgeport.
Mms., another Olympic candidate, were the four
men to face the starter in the final heat. Oalla
han made two fal.«e starts, and was penalized so
severely that he decided to drop out. Eaton
fiiso was penalized. Hahn managed t<. crops tho
tape first, a foot ahead of Danaher. Eaton was
third. The time was 6 4-"> mds.

metre race. There were more than twenty
Starters In the race. Bonhag caught up with
the leaders toward the end and finished first,
two yards to the good of F. P. Devlin, of the
Mott Haven Athletic Club, who got second place.

height with a throw of 15 feet. J. H. Burke, .>f
the Irish-American Athletic Club, waa second,
with a throw of 14 feet 8 inches. This was for
the i hamptonahip of the Amateur Athletic
Union.
In putting the 24-pound shot for the Amateur
Athletic Union championship, Robert Sheldon,
who in entered in the weight contests at the
Olympic games, finished second, with a put of
84 feet 2 Inches, while Mitchell got third prize
vith a put of SO feet 1 inch. First laoe went to
L. II J. Ft-U'-rbach, of the New-York Athletic
Club, with a put of 34 feet 6 inches.
The one mile high school relay race for tha
championt-hij. at the Public Bch'^ciln Athle.tio
L*eague was won by the Boys' High School. The
representatives of this school led from start to
finish, and won by twenty yards from the De
Witt Clinton High School, which was second.
The tlir.e was 8 minutes 50 4-5 seconds.
In a epecla.l one mll6 rt-lay race betwern the
Pastime Athletic Club and the Cambridgeport
Gymnasium Association the farmer team won In
a close finish.
J. F. O'Cormell, of the Xew-York Athletio
Club, won first place in the metre handicap
arid the running hl^h Jump handicap.

Company K Wins Honors at 2Sd
Regiment Games.
Th« poldier athletes of Company K carried
off the honors last night at the L'3d Regiment
twenty-eighth Indoor games, held in the armory
at Bedford and Atlantic avenues, Brooklyn. Of
the twenty-five competitions on the programme
twenty-one were company contests, and of these
Company K won nine, scoring 45 points to 30
made by Company 11 f*n<l H~> by Comparies A
and <.;.
The seating- apace in the great building was
filled to its capacity. The feature of tha sport
was the breaking of the armory record in the
IUO-yard high hurdle race by S. C. Northridge.
of Company Q, who was the scratch man out of
a Held of ten starters. He was the holder of the
previous record — \<\ 1-5 pecor.ds — and he re
duced thls to 1" 4-.". seconds, Ltlng C. J. Bacon
by ii yard. Xorthridge was also the winner of
the 220-yard handicap dash. In this he was
again the scratch man and W. R, Bun of
Company K, v. a his nearest opponent.
The most exciting contest was the interrogl
mental medley relay race between teams from
the li!th Regiment and the 2"Jd Regiment. Harry
L. Hill] and H. W. ' -'hn. the latter being
one of th< athletes who is going to Athens, ran
on the 13th Regiment team, but were beat J.
P. Sullivan, of the -IM. defeated Conn in the last
relay, which was a mile, coming in a winner
by five yards.
F. T. Wanner, who holds the armory record
for the two mile bicycle raco, made a great
showing from scratch In that contest, but was
beaten by Cecil \Y. Ledyaxd, who was handl
capped seventy yards

spite Poor Conditions.
Tr. a cold northwest wind, the trapshooters of
th« Crescent Athletto Cluh did some, excellent
scoring yesterday on the. grounds at Bay Ridge.
Considering the severe w»ather, the attendance
was above the average, and a xood afternoon's
pport was furnished In the thirteen matches
contoFtpd. The experts are keeping In the best
of fettle for the match next Saturday with the
gunners from tho Boston Athletic Association.
Seventeen men entered for the March cud at
twenty-flve targets. F. B. Stephenaon was high
gun at the finish, with a score of 23 out of the
possible li">. In the next match, for the Stake
Trophy, F. C. Raynor, shooting against twelve
others with a handicap of R, made a full score
of 25. In th<» team shoot, in which three pairs
entered. F. T. Bedford, with G. G. Stephenson
as partner, won with a total score of 4.?. to 41
made by F. B. Stephenson and O. C. GrinnelL
In a special handicap match at flfty targets,
e&oh man to shoot twenty-flve at each eet of
traps, nine entered. It was a keen and plucky
contest from start to finish. Lowell M. Palmer,
Jr., one of the scratch men. was the winner,
with a total score of 44. He defeated F. B.
Stephenson, also a -nt.-h man, by one target.

the traps had hard work to make good scores.

Brown tied with Hibbai and Pelham, with
clean cards of twenty-six. The shoot-off, how
ever, went to Brown.

doubles championship, to be held on the courts
of tho New- York Itacquet and Tennis Club on
March 2G» 27. 28 and 29 Thus far the name of
Percy D. Haughton. the champion, does, not ap
pear, but two of the Boston players, Quincy A.
Bhaw, jr., and Q. It. Fearing, have entered.
It Is generally believed that <i. R. Fearing will
play with H. D. Scott, as the two are now hold
ers of the title In doubles. Altogether, eleven
pairs have been named. Payne Whitney, of this
city, is not included, but he may team up with
Lawre: Waterbury. who has not as yet named
his partner. In previous years they nave made
a strong combination.
