STOCK MAHKET OPERATIONS.
Opening prices In yesterday's stock market
were under the closing figures of the preceding
day, and while In the subsequent first liou£
transactions there was some improvement the
general tone of speculation reflected the desire
of operators to take profits and a disposition
on the part of room traders to play for quick
turns on the short side. The. reaction was noth
ing' more, it was thought, than an Incident of a
bull market. Since the recent decline culmi
nated there has been a material advance in all
the active Issues and In many of the usually in
active securities, and a pause In the upward
movement Is neither surprising nor disappoint
ing:; indeed, a change of this character is de
sirable. Inasmuch as It Improves the technical
position of speculation. Expectation of a poor
bank statement had something to do with the
bearishness of the room traders, and the pub
lication of the figures, showing a loss in reserve
of $4,769,800. certainly was not a factor encour
aging activity on the bull side of the market.
With this loss reserve now stands at $14,122,675,
compared with $12,163,525 in the same week
last year and $56,305,850 in 1904.
The market showed a feebly rallying ten
dency on the appearance of the bank statement,
but the downward course was soon resumed,
the close witnessing net losses In the great ma
jority of the issues dealt in. Among the weak
est stocks were Reading, which lost 2% points;
Anaconda, 4; Great Northern, 2%; Colorado
Fuel, 2%; St. Paul, 1%; New York Central and
Louisville and Nashville, each 1% points.
The position of the local money market does
not suggest the development of easy rates for
loans in tha near future, while there are some
indications of higher quotations before long, an
Indication of which was presented In the course
of the market at the close of the week, when
there was a noticeable hardening In the call de
partment. "While there is little reason to look
forward to disturbance this fall, there are good
prospects of etlff figures In the loan market,
owing to the heavy demands which will be
made on this centre for funds Incident to crop
movements and the expansion in the country's
Industries. The talk that the interior will be
able to handle the requirements of the crops
and trade this autumn without calling on New
York for assistance is being indulged in Just
as it has been in the past at this season of the
year, but it doubtless will be found that New
York will be compelled as usual to send large
amounts of money to the West and South,
representing withdrawals of Interior balances
and Bums In addition. The interior bank bal
ances at this centre are lighter than usual.
Foreign exchange rates in the week just closed
moved against this city, sterling advancing well
above the point at which gold could be brought
from Europe at a profit. There will be a con
siderable amount of the yellow metal in the
London market this week, but the chances of
our bankers securing any of it are extremely
slim. Were it not for the Russian situation
exchange undoubtedly would decline, inasmuch
as trade balances are heavily in our favor, and
if foreigners become convinced that there is to
be no real revolution in Russia rates ought to
decline to a point that would attract gold from
Europe.
Trade reports received at the end of the week
furnished further evidence of the strength of
industrial conditions in the United States. In
all departments activity is reported. The iron
and steel business is enjoying a volume of orders
never before equalled in the history of the trade,
while the same thing may be said of outside
concerns, especially the plants in the South.
Railroad earnings now coming to hand make
most gratifying increases over the corresponding
period in former years, improvement not being
confined to any one section of the country, all
roads showing the effect of the tremendous ac
tivity in the various branches of the nation's
industries. In Canada prosperity also is re
flected in railroad earnings, the returns of the
Canadian Pacific, for instance, for the fourth
week in July presenting a gain of $425,000,
making from July 1 a gain by this company of
$1,834,000. In view of all the favorable factors
in the situation it is not surprising that holders
of American securities show supreme confidence
in their Investments.

Financial.
KING'S BULLETIN.
I want to soml my weekly financial newspaper free tD everr _.
vestor in corporation securities— to erery person with money ... 2
in banks or trust companies.
"Kind's Financial Bulletin" is a lar^e S-page newspaper and Is sjafa
Ushed for and in the Interest of honest Investors. f
It is Issued on Saturday of each week and Is sent free; psstr, a ,i
to all makinsr written request for it. •* > ~-^
It Is absolutely independent in all things.
It has no advertising space for sale, and is, therefore. In po*l»ca
to hew straight to tbe line, letting the chips fall where they may/
At all times. In season and out of season. "King's Financial EcT
letin" will be found standing for. insisting on and demanding a "sqoai«}
deal" for investors.
It is the personal organ — tbe special envoy— a financial agent
(who believes that Right is Right— who believes that Wrong is Wrong,
whether committed by a bank president or a bootblack— believed
that four cents does not begin to represent adequate compensation fo
the labor of an American dollar a full calendar year— who deplores the
fictitious form of speculation fomented by Wall Street and its apostle
and disciples — who believes that the trading In storks on margin is a
broad and beaten path that leads more men and women to destruction
every year than any other form of gambling— who believes that banks,
trust companies and all corporations should be conducted in the inter*
ests of the people whose foods make their success possible, whether
deposited in vaults in the name of safety or invested in their securi
ties—who believes that the crying need of our country is a clearer
understanding of the rights of corporation stockholders, whether the
engraved certlflcates represent a one-share interest in the Billion Dollar
Steel Trust or a ten-dollar peanut s;arid.
Always "King's Financial Bulletin" will stand for and commend
without favor all things in the worid of finance that are Right, an 4
condemn without fear all things that are Wron.sc.
My hope is that the doctrine of Correct Investing, which I boldly
proclaim through this publication from»week to week, may touch a re
sponsive chord in the hearts and minds of investors, and to the end
that I may be able to render the greatest good to the greatest number
I invite personal correspondence with all interested persons, to whom
I will gladly send this liveliest and most vigorous of all financial new*
papers, free postpaid, so long as its weekly visits may be desired. Xo
Investor should be without it. Write for it to-day. Address
