FIFTH AVENUE LEASE INVOLVES $750,000

The proposed building will be designed
toy Francis G. Stewart and Harry Allen
Jacobs, architects. The exterior will be in
Italian ctyie, built in white marble, with a
colonnade on the second floor, separated by
COluams of Pavana\-va marble. Between
these columns will stand larpe caned mar
ble' boxes, filled with flower.-. The back of
the. -colonnade will be at French plate glass.
The ground floor entrance will be particu
larly impressive, -with lame bronze candle-
Micks at the entrance, and the show win
dow viii be set 111 a border of white marble,
elaborately carved. The walls and ceiling
of the entire cround floor will be built of
Caenrtone. The ceilings will be arched
end elaborately carved in stone, and a cir
cular marble stairway, which will be one
of the features of the building, will run up
to the second floor. Over thai stairway will
be a dome of leaded glass, which will shed
light into the rear of the showrooms. This
Is the first time that a salesroom has been
built entirely of Caen stone, it Is said. Be
cause of its costliness It was usually used
only ■ private houses. The buildinj will
he six stories. It will be entirely used by
Hardrnan. Peck A- Co.
There will bo on almost every floor a
room decorated in some period design, such
its baaai XV, Louis XVI. Mission. Colonial.
Adam!-, Sheraton, etc.. each containing
«nly one piano, to match the particular etyla
a? decoration of the room. This is being
done "so that a prospective purchaser may
*cc how the piano case will match the
«=ty!e of decoration .which he may want to
introfluce hi nis own home. These iastru

delivery by the firm, instead of having to

Hess. The building will be finished about
April 1, 80. Alfred I>. Peck, president of
the arm. stated to a Tribune reporter yes
terday that the dedication of this new piano
palace will take place about March 1 next,
and that many of the most prominent opera
lingers have promised to be present and
lend their assistance 10 make the occasion
a memorable one.
The firm of Hardman. Peck & Co. was
established in 1542 by Hugh Hardman. In
3ST9 the late Leopold Peck entered the firm.
Their present showrooms hi this city are
located at No. OS Fifth avenue, near ISth
street, where they have been for nearly
thirty yearE. On account of the encroach
ing -wholesale business in this section the
firm decided to mov;. The firm is now
building one of the largest piano manu
facturing plants In this city, capable of
turning out between eight and ten thousand
pianos a year.
Haviland & Co. are also going to move
io the Fifth avenue district. They have
baasibt the premises Xo. 11 East 3Cth street
and extending to Xo. 10 East 17th street.

street. Mr. Rothschild recently purchased
Xos. 302 and 104 and bow controls the
block front, with the exception of the 3Gth
