DTD NOT SET DATES-MAXWELL
Explains Conflict of Examinations and
Sunday School Parade in Brooklyn.
William H. Maxwell. Superintendent of
Schools, isrued a statement yesterday ex
plaining how the dates set by the Stat-
Examination Board came In conflict with
the Sunday school parade in Brooklyn o
June 9. According to the Superintended
th© time of examinations required for grad
uations from high schools is fixed by the
state board, and this year the date, selected
were June 13 and 14. About the beginning
Of March the Superintendent said his at
tention was called to the fact that both of
these days were Jewish holidays and he
therefore' communicated with Commissioner
Draper, who changed the dates to June 9
and 10.
A short time afterward Commissioner
Draper learned that the Brooklyn schools '
would be closed on June 9 because of t,<-
Sunday school parade. He finally decided,
however, not to change the dates again,
says Superintendent Maxwell.
