is claimed, Is the most fireproof struc
ture south of Twenty-third street. The
building covers a plot of 3,500 equate
feet, with a frontage of 00.9 feet on
Mr. Van Valen made It ft condition
of selling the property that tho seller
should take back a lease of the entire
building and he will continue- to act as
agent for the property. The entire
transaction represents a consideration
In excess of $1,500,000.
The Llchtensteln Millinery Company,
now at 6S8 Fifth avenue, has taken a
long lease of the property nt 5S1 Fifth
avenue, 27x100, located SO feet from the
northwest corner' of Fors.v-seventh
street. The existing building will be de
molished and a new eight story struc
ture erected for the exclusive use of the
firm. The lease, which was recorded
yesterday. Is for thirteen years and
nine months, from May 1, 1913, at ?30,
00 per annum.
The property, which Is a Columbia
College leasehold, was acquired In July
from the Sullivan estate by Samuel IT.
.Stone and Moses J. Wolf. The ground
lease at that time had flft;n years to
run, the original lease containing two
renewals of twenty-one years each. The
negotiations for leasing to the Llchten
stein firm have been In progress since

A deal Involving one of the largest
parcels of waterfront property In New
York that "has been made In a decade was
consummated yesterday, when the trans
fer of five square blocks, two In Green
point and three In Long Island City, was
filed. The transaction Involved half a
million dollars. The Standard Oil Com
pany purchased the two blocks In Qreen
point adjacent to Its plant, which fronts
876 feet on Newtown Creek. The prop
erty Is bounded by Newtown Creek, Web
ster, Pollock and Jackson streets. It was
purchased from the Contractors' Realty
Company and John C. Wlerda ft Co.
On the Long Island City side of the creek
the Flleschmann Company, manufacturers
of yeast, sold to the Contractors Realty
Company, who will use the plots as stor
age yards, the three blocks bounded by
Newtown Creek, Review avenue, Howard
and Preston streets.
The entire transaction Involved nearly
half a million dollars, Including the mort
gages. The actual cash paid was approx
