1 This cable stated: "Heavy American
snipments of copper this week largely
represent unsold copper shipped by Amal
gamated on consignment to find a mar
ket." For years It has been nn open secret
In the trnde that such steps have been
taken, but In explanation producers have
stated that It Is good business for them
to carry at times a part of their surplus
siockh on inn other side so ns to be In
position to mnko quick deliveries abroad
when demaml resumes.
There was no new development In the
copper market yesterday. Through prl
vaio lionaon cables it became known at
an early hour that cheap copper was
available In Iluropo. ns dealers worn quot
ing 14Vi cents at London. The, nominal
asking quotation of the producers here
seems to be from 14?; to 1.1 cents, but
no business of volume was reported.
wexi week will be Issued the copper
producers statement for the month of
November, which Is expected to show an
Increase In stock on December 1 over the
beginning of November, Estimates as to
the amount of tho Increase, however, con
tinue to vary with guesses running as
high as Ui. 000, 000 pounds.
