dwelling planned or completed this year

most expensive wan the Prick . louse,
which cost $j,000,0n. Including the site,
which takes in the cn'Irc block from
Siventleth to Seventy-llrst street and
along both streets some distance. With
the Interior furnishings It Is a big gue.-
to estimate the cost of this residence.
It 1 often the case that the interior
of a house costs more than th' building
and the site together.
The dwellings constructed thll year
or are now being shaped by scores of
skilled builders cost from $."0,0U0 to $5.
000,000. Before the owner of the 15u.
00(1 house decides to occupy the house
another ?30,000 will probably be spent
on the interior anil furnishings, so that
it Is not too much to say that the houses
of this year will run from $100,000 to
J7.00o.000.
The, question nRtur.illy follows.
Where Is the value In the interior?
Thin Is answered by the fact thnt the
material from all parts of the world has
been collected to build thece houses.
From Indiana comes the limestone, that
soft gray stone that has been used In
the facade of nearly nil the new houses.
The big bronze doors that guard the
Inmates from the outsldn world came
from Connecticut and F.urope up to the
outbreak of the war. The marble that
has gone into tho walls and halls and
trim came from the Oteen Mountains
In Vermont or the quarries of Oakvllle,
Franca nnd from the marble centres of
Italy. Kngllsh fotests hnve supplied
tho oak that hns been used In Honrs of
somo of the houses, while in others
American oak and line combed plno
from the Carollnas nnd Ororgla has
been used, .Inpan has added to the
splendor of these pew houses with wood
that shines like a nlrror, The wild
regions of the upper Amazon supplied
the mahogany used In Hun carving and
finishing work, nnd from Hungary has
come tho greater part of the plate glass
that makes these houses radium,
Neatly every civilized country has
been or will be called upon to help build
the many houses which are now under
construction or will be before many
more mouths have elapsed.
The residence of Henry C. Prick is
the finest of the group. Coveting a
block, il cost the Pittsburg financier
