A Report on Ulster Heights Lake.
Recently I fished Ulster Heights Lake.
My fishing partner nnd his wife were there
u week when I arrived.
Tha lak. la a mile long and at th. time
was about IH feet below th normal
height. I fished Sunday, Monday and Tues
day, got very few strikes and caught one
flh, which I returned,
Wednesday It clouded up at 10:10 and I
caught two fair sited pickerel before noon.
In tha afternoon I caught fourteen and re
turned four. These nsh were caught near
the rnmps on pearl wobbler, plug minnow
and Huell lake trout spinner.
Thursday not a bite until II A. M.
Caught two. returned as undersized.
Did not Ilsh Frldav or Saturday except
from dayllnght until X A, M. Nn biles.
Now tho cause Is not lack of fish but Ihe
draining off of the wnter to supply water
to manufacturer In Ellenvllle.
The owner of the mills has purchased all
water rights, also Cape Pond, and as they
hae had no rain for six weeks they draw
water almost dally.
When they atop drawing water you can
go below the dam twelve hours later nnd
pick up pickerel that die from beln;
stranded. The lade Is filled with eel grass
and mud popple. I belleie the stream was
tor.ed with 25.000 bass Ilngerllngs about
five ears ago.
I saw n row small bass. How fish can
live and thrive In n mud puddle like that
take I do not Know. Olto Johnson told me
that the record pickerel In 1911 was 7
pounds 14 ounces and In 1914 pound 10
ounce. I can go tn ponds on Lone Island.
