RctbsL OF THE MllKCT L iws. As will be
seen by reference to our report of the proceed
ing of the City Council last night, fsie i sidi
in market matters ha been inaugurated.
The ordinance passed by the Council repeal at'
law restricting the sale in any part of the city
by any one of butchers' meat, cc , Ac. The
clauses of the old ordinance regulating the
markets, that are still in force and effect, prevent
slaughtering within city limits, the tale of un
wholesome meats, dec , &c. Quite au animated
discussion ou the subject took place; in favor
of the repealing ordinance, Col. Rioca, Messrs.
On att, HsaBica" and Msstim, and against it
Messrs. Rsnsoii , Mceller, andTHivia. There
was a determined opposition to everything tend
ing to centralize markets, as was manifested in
the defeat of Mr. Rmson'f resolution directing
market-men to occupy the Central Market
Ground; not preventing any one, however,
from selling meat, ta., in any part of the city
and in the defeat of a resolution directing the
enclosure of the grounds by post. The vote
on the repeal of the old ordinance stood 13
ayes t nays.
Avt'sEatEirrs. The Melodeon held a large
and delighted audieure last night, and Prof.
Love waa in hi happiest mood. Hit tricks
and transformations are really wonderful, and
excited the astonishment and delight of all who
witnessed them. His exhibitions are pat'on
ized by the elite and fashion, and are full of
entertainment. He remains at the Melodeon
during the week.
That Bor Geoice who so capitally pla)d the
difficult character of " Toodl,"at the Theater
last night to a large and fashionable audience,
ia what i expressively called a " brick." He
" brought down" the bouse by his lively and
perfect delineation of the peculiarities of the
f.mous Toudles, while the other character were
supported with great spirit. Tbe Marsh Chil
dren are prodigies, and those who are fond of
unique theatricals should not neglect the op
portunity to see them. They appear to-night
in the Lady of Lyons" and My Neighbor's
Wife."
Pours Coikt. Bridget Heason was ye,
