A Revareablz Sceoical OpEation. Our
readers will remember an account s -tma time
since of a remarkably successful operation by
Dr. Pboctob Thavee upon a man who had been
insane five years ; his insanity being tbe result
of an accident which caused a depression of a
portion of the patient's skull upon his brain
Dr. Thayer baa recently performed a similar
operation with like success upon Dr. Laveeino,
of Lisbon, Indiana. In Jane last Dr. L. was
thrown from his carriage against an awning
post, and bis forehead severely injured. For
seventeen days he was entirely insensible; and
although he so far recovered as to be able to be
about, he seemed to have completely lost Lis
memory. Though a practicing physician he
entirely forgot the properties of his medicines,
and was unable to distinguish between opium
and salts, or any other medicinal agents. He
was also partially insane, and frequently ex
pressed a strong desire to kill his wife and some
of his best friends. On tbe zTsh of September
nit., Dr. Laveeing was submitted to Dr.
Thayer for examination, and was operated on
by him on the 30th. A portion of the bone of
the forehead was found to compress the brain,
and it was lifted oat and properly replaced.
Tbe operation occupied about one hour's time
while the patient was under tbe influence of
chloroform ; at its termination Dr. Latc iS6
was entirely restored to his former self. TAis de
light was unbounded ; and after remaining un

This operation was performed against the ad
vice of the western physicians ; but Mrs. Lav
eeixo, a brave and resolute woman, who bad
heard of Dr. Thatee's success in the case first
mentioned, was determined to have a trial o
his skill. The result has verified bei most can
guine expectations; and establishes Dr. Thatee"
growing reputation as a skillful and reliable
