we pass the citv.thom
ands of persons are gathered on the sloping
green hillside, all haying a good yiew of
tbe tram, uigb up we see an arch, with
the inscription, "Abraham Lincoln." It is
draped in mourning, and the supports are
covered with alternate stripes of black and
while. Immediately under the arch is a
lady, dressed in Horizontal bars of the na
tional colors, to represent the Genius of
liberty. Htie Holds in her hand a hag, and
this, together with her cap, is bandased
with mourning. It is a beautiful and ex
preserve ngure.
AH plaoesoi Dusinees are closed. Colors
are displayed at half mait. A national
salute of 36 guns is fired, and half-hour
guns will be nred till sunset. We proceed
to Kuclid street station in the cars. This
is the point where Mr. Lincoln embarked
for Washington just previous to his inaug
uration ; aud Here tne procession was form
ed.
The coffin was placed in a hearse, the
roofing of which was covered with a na
tional flag, with black plumes, and other
wise tasleiully and appropriately adorned.
The military escort embraced Major Gen

the German Benevolent Society, the Jlqual
Bight League, dec, and all the Benevolent
and other Associations, and citizens on
foot a multitude of them.
The procession embraced all conditions of
the people, witoout distinction of party or
religion, and it presented a decidedly tine
app -arance, as it moved through the streets
ot this truly beautiful city from Euclid
street to Erie, down Erie to fc'uporior and
thence to tha Park.
The sidewalks were densely crowded
ith mournful persons, while thousands
of spectators tokeld the cortege from the
steps and windows of the beautiful resi
dences which line the entire route. Em
blems of mourning were everywhere prom
inent, together with expressive mottoes.
.Every stranger is loud in his expressions
of admiration of the splendid order of the
arrangements.
Xtien toliows a description of the oatafal-
que and building containing it, copied from
the Lkadib of Friday rooming. - The dis
patch continues:
The religious cervices, after the remains
had been placed upon the dis, were per
formed by Bight Reverend Buhop Mcll
yaine, who, in the course of his prayer,
asked the blessing of heaven on the imme
diate family of tbe deceased, and a sancti
fication of the events which had called the
nation to mourn to tbe good of bim who
had succeeded to the Chief Maeistacy. He
then read a part of tie funeral service of
the .Episcopal Church, slightly altering
their text to suit the occasion. These ser
vices were intensely solemn, and moved
many of the listeners to tears.
The remains were then exposed to pub
lic view. The arrangements are so perfect
that every one who desires to see them
will have no ditticulty in being gratified.

Cleveland nag made a demonstration
worthy of her citizens. Their sad counte
nances attest stronger than words the
heavy grief which aQects all hearts.
CLEVELAND, 9 P.M.
The number who witnessed the remains
of the President during tbe day was 180 a
minute. Two rows ol spectators were con
stantly passing, one on each side of the
coffin. The lid was freshly covered with
flowers in the form of harps, crosses, and
bouquets gathered in the hothouses of
Cleveland and laid upon the coffin by la
dies representing the Soldiers' Boiiet As
sociation. -
The funeral party were the guests of tbe
corporate authorities. They were quarter
ed at the Weddell House. A more liberal
and friendly greeting could not have been
extended.
Charles L. Wilson, of Chicago, on be
half ot a Uommittee ol one hundred, was
here to day to extend the hostilities of that
city. This committee is to proceed to Mich
igan city to meet tne remains, and will
ehcort them to Springfield.

ing. Everywhere deep sorrow has been
manifested, and the feeling seems, if possi
ble, to deepen, as we move Westward with
the remains to their final resting place.
Governor Brough to-night extended the
hospitalities of his residence to the funeral
party.
Dick Turner.
Dick Turner, the noted turnkey of Libby
Prison, is securely locked np in the most
dismal, subterranean dungeon of that place
of torture. There is no pity felt for him
in Richmond. A correspondent who saw
the cruel-hearted mac, describes him ai
being pale as leprosy, his beard whiten
ing, his deficient teeth ajar, and his eyes
full of guilty terror. He is now fully
as mean and cringing in his behavior
as, in power, he was insolent and cruel.
When turnkey, he shot men dead with a
revolver who came to the windows for air
and light, kicked and knocked down others,
and took delight in augmenting the untold
miseries of the poor prisoners nnder his
charge. He has heard, in his loathsome
cell, that the soldiers have decreed his
death so soon as they are fully assured of
his identity, and his pleadings for mercy are
presented to all who come near him ; but
