Yesterday was the darkest Sn the Lis
tory of Nashville. For several days the
people had anxiously awaited the decis
ion of Chanoellor Harrison id regard to
the injunction whieb should have stayod
the hand of tyronny in its loll desoent
upon this community, and thai ablest jir
isis of Nashville had appealed fcr them )
but the sword of impeachment swuDg
threatingly above the head of the hesita
ting Chancellor, and he yielded to his
master.
As soon as Harrison's refusal to grant
the injunction became known, A. E. Al
den, the so-called Mayor elect, waited up
on Mayor Brown in person, and, armed
with the following document!, demanded
the surrender of bis office :

At about five o'clock a detachment of

Blookburn and Lieutenant Alloway,
moved down from Capitol Hill, toward
ho itiuarp, and in a tew moments drew
up in line of battle between the market
place and the court bouse, wneie incy

meet ' them as they entered. Heavily
armed as he was Blaokburn cowered be
neath the eye of Matt. Brown, and as tho
Mayor demanded his business, bo treroT

he finally managed to blurt out that be
had been sent to take possession ol "this

proceeded Mayor Brown, "1 will bonsider
it,"
' "I will use force if you do not choose
to submit," replied Blaekburn.- -

"Well, here, I believe I have' one,"
said Blaekburn, suddenly . recovering
himeelf, and drawing partially out of his
pookot a paper, which the Mayor almost
snatched from his band. Blackburn
clutched at the document, and insisted
that it bo given back. The Mayor insist
ed on keeping it to copy, and only re
signed the paper alter reading it and re
ceiving a pledge from Blockburn that
his request would be shortly granted.

with a certificate of its correctness ; upon

The above onuses produco more sick
ness, Buffering, and death than all epidem
ics, malaria, and contagion, combined
with war, pestilence, nd famine. Noar
1y all who have attained to old ago have
been remarkable for equanimity of tem
per, correct habits of diet, drink, and
rest fcr temperance, cheerfulnessand
morality. Physical punishments is sure
to visit the transgressor of nature's laws.

The sun shines in St. Petersburg,
June and July, for twenty hoars a da
and even scarcely disappears beneath the
horizon. 1 never expenenoed suon swelt

None but the weary, labor-worn serf,

what a strange mistake. The sunshine
still lingers in tbe heavens with a golden
glow ; the evening vanishes dreamily in
the arms of the morning ; there is noth
