C, writes: "Through my own experience as well as that of many of my friends and acquaintances who have been cured or relieved of catarrh by the use of Hartman's Peruna, I can confidently rec ommend it to those suffering from such disorders, and have no hesitation In prescribing it to my patlenta."Robert R, Roberts. A CONSTANTLY increasing. num ber of physicians prescribe -Peruna in their regular practice. It has proven its merits so thoroughly tha^. even the doctors have overcome their,:, {preju dice against so-called patent medicines and recommend it to their patients.' Peruna occupies a unique position In medical science. It is the only Internal systemic catarrh remedy known to the medical profession to-day. Catarrh, as every one will admit, is the cause of one half the diseases which "afflict- mankind. Catarrh and catarrhal diseases afflict one-half of the people of United States. Catarrh may invade any organ of the body, may destroy any function of the body. It most commonly attacks the head, nose and throat, but thousands upon thousands of cases of catarrh of the lungs, stomach, kidneys, bladder and other pelvio organs have been cured by Peruna. Peruna is able to cure catarrh wher ver it may be located by its direct Dr. Leland Williamson, Torktown, Ark., writes: "Having used Peruna both personally and having prescribed it for my patients for many years, I thought it' would not be out of place to write you a few lines of my experience with same. I have taken Peruna as a tonic and catarrh rem edy, and have used it in my practice with always the same result, benefit to the patient. It tones up and strengthens the various organs "of the body, heals the ca tarrhal mucous membranes, and is a boon Dr. Llewellyn Jordan, Medical Examiner of the U. S. Treasury Department, Washington, D. Peruna acts at once to cleanse and invigorate the catarrhal condition of the mucous membrane no matter where it may occur in the body. Its action is the same on mucous lining of the nose as on the mucous lining of the bowels. It cures the catarrhal inflammation wher ever it may occur. Dr. R. Robbins, Muskogee, I. T., writes: "Peruna is the best medicine I know of for cough and to strengthen a weak stom ach and to give appetite. Besides pre scribing it for catarrh I have ordered- it for weak and debilitated people, ^.nd have .not had a patient but said it helped him. It is 'an excellent medicine and it fits so many cases. "I have a large practice, and have a chance to prescribe your Peruna. I hope you may live long to do good to the sick and suffering." We say Peruna cures catarrh. The people say Peruna cures catarrh. Promi nent men and women all over the United States from Maine to California do not hesitate to come out in public print to say that Peruna is what it is recom mended to be, an internal, systemic ca tarrh remedy that cures catarrh wherever it may be located. to suffering humanity. But when any one medicine cures hundreds of people,- it demonstrates its own value and does not need the endorsement of the profession. "Peruna has performed so many won derful cures in San Francisco that I am convinced that It is a valuable remedy I have frequently. advised its use for women, as I find it insures regular and painless menstruation, cures leucorrhoea and ovarian troubles, and builds up the entire system. I also consider it one of the finest catarrh remedies I know ofi I heartily endorse your medicine."M. C. Gee, M. D. A physician of wide celebrity called upoh Dr. Hartman one day and after the usual salutations had passed between them the doctor suddenly remarked: "I have called to see you, Dr. Hart man, to satisfy my mind on some, points. I have always been opposed to .advertised methods and considered them all more or less frauds. But I have known you so long to be a renowned physician and an honorable gentleman, that I am puzzled to know which of us is wrong." A Duty to Advertise Peruna. "Well, It may turn out that neither of us is wrong. We both are sincere in the matter according to our understanding. I have a good medicine I want the peo ple to know it. I believe it would be positively wrong for me to conceal.the fact. I believe it not only to be my privilege to advertise Peruna, but my duty to do so." "Well, suppose I grant that surely you cannot believe that your remedy (Peruna) Is a cure-all. No educated physician be lieves in cure-alls." Dr. Hartman Does Not Cure-alts. "Neither do I believe in cure-alls, nor have I ever claimed .that Peruna was a cure-all. Peruna cures just one disease catarrhbut, as you well know,' any organ in the body is liable to catarrh. Can you find any fault with that, doctor?" "Well, no*, I cannot. But according to my information in the case, people claim that they have been cured of rheumatism, malaria, nervous prostration, neuralgia and-heart-disease., Now, if your-remedy cures one disease only, how do you ac count for It that it has the reputation of curing these other ailments?" How do the malaria germs find their way Into the system?" "They enter with the food, water and air which we consume "Enter where, doctor?" "Well, now, you are perfectly sure, doc tor, that they would ""be able to enter through these membraifes if they were perfectly healthy, or, in. other words, per fectly free from'catarrh?" Peruna-will remove every vestige of. catarrh of |hft mucous, mem brane and leave them ^perfectly healthy," and thus prevent the entrance of-malar ial germs. Of course' this, would lead to the cure of any case: of malaria, would It not?" ~v "Yes, that would certainly lead to a cure. But how about.rheumatism? Peo ple claim that Peruna-willv aire rheuma- tism."'.' Pe-ru-na Enriches the Blood and In creases the Vitality. "Well, in the first place, nervous pros tration and rieuralgia are each directly dependent upon the ..blood and a low state of vitality. Now Peruna Immediately en riohes the blood and increases the vitality by producing perfeot digestion. This it does in its action on the mucous mem brane of the stomach and other digestive organs.. If the truth were known in these cases I suppose we would find that ca tarrh of these organs was the first cause of the lowered vitality which brought on the nervous prostration and neuralgia. Thus you see it might be that Peruna will cure all such cases of nervous prostra tion and neuralgia ..simply because it cures catarrh." \"1 pan see the force of your reasoning In these two affections^ but how about malaria? Surely malaria is not caused by catarrh?" "Are you quite sure of that, doctor? [believe that catarrh causes everything." I Medicine Co., Colurcbus, "Ohio, "Well, in the first place, a "great many cases of supposed rheumatism are not in reality rheumatism, but mylagia or neuralgia, which are dependent on low ered states of vitality, as before stated. Then, again, rheumatism, you know,' de pends upon a hyper-acidity of the "blood, How do you suppose the blood becomes overloaded with laotic and urlo acids, as the cas may be, which produces rheu- matism?-"e x,\ "It must coine from the produces' of di gestion, of course, as the blood can get nothing except what the digestive organs bring to it." "Well, can't you see,-then, that a ca tarrhal condition of the digestive organs might.be the only reason why an undue amount of lactic or uric ,acid Is formed in the blood?" U.-i '/"L "Well,. I declare. I he^r,. thought of that .before.-. If I contIxme?.ctbis conver sation much longer- -yOtt-r-will -make me yic and frequent headache, or It would go to the lungs, causing Inflammation and coreness, which caused me much suffer ing and anxiety. "1 nearer found a remedy which Would break up a cold as effectively as Peruna. Within a few days I noticed a change and was usually well within a week or ten days. Three times within the last two years I have had reason to be thank ful to Peruna. I now find that if I take a couple of doses. when I have been ex posed to inclement weather it prevents my catching cold." Mrs. Dr. Mcliewin. Geo. C. Havener, M. D., of Anacostia, D. C, writes: The Peruna Medicine Co., Columbus, O.: Gentlemen"In my practice I have had occasion to frequently prescribe your val uable medicine, and have found its use beneficial, especially In cases of catarrh." George C. Havener, M. D "But are not my claims valid? Are not my arguments logical? If" they are not, show me my faul.t. If they are, you ought to accept my conclusions." "I will think this matter over before attempting to make you any reply. It don't seem possible that all this can be true but now as fe heart disease. What are you going to do with the claim that Peruna will cure heart disease?" Heart Disease Often Due to Dyspepsia. "If you mean by heart disease, inflam mation of the covering or lining of the heart (pericarditis and endocarditis) then I agree with you that Pe-ru-na will not cure heart disease. Neither will any, other medicine. But you know, doctor, that there are a thousand and one functional disturbances of the heart caused by irri tation of the pneumo-gastric nerve, which the people call heart disease. These dis turbances of the heart are even more difficult to bear than qrganlc disease of the heart, and Pe-ru-na will cure them simply because it cures any catarrhal af fection of the digestive tract. Most of the so-called heart disease is dyspepsia at bottom, as you know." "Yes, I grant you that, but I have heard it .frequently stated that Pe-ru-na will cure organic disease of the heart." Enthusiastic Statements Concerning .w Pe-ru-na. "But, of course, I am not responsible for all the. statements that the people make, yet even this proposition will bear a little scrutiny before it is set a3lds as being wholly false. Now, doctor, toil me what you would do if you had a caso of organic disease of the heart." "t would do all I could to equalize the circulation of the blood, sustain the vital powHS, and keep up the nutrition of the patient" "Is that all you could do for your pa tient?" "Yes, that is all I could do." "Well, Pe-ru-na will do exactly that, whether a person has heart disease or not. It will regulate the circulation, it will increase $ie, vitality and assist nu trition. According to your own statement that is all that can be done. Why not use Pe-ru-na then as well as anything else?" "I think I will have to give up beaten to-day, but I will have to study up these questions and get some of your Pe-ru-na, so as to make a thorough teat of your claims. Then I am coming to see .you again, when- I think I shall be able to break down some of your conclusions." "All right, doctor. I will be glad to see you at any time, and whenever you convince me that my claims are too large I will contract Ihom accordingly."
