Chicago, June 1.In a suit begun to day In the United States circuit court, 600 claimants demanded thee\ictionof the Pennsylvania Rallioad company from property here valued at $3,500,- 00. The chief property at stake is at Stewart avenue, between Twelfth and Sixty-first streets. In the bill filed by James Hamilton Lewis as chief counsel, an Injunction is asked against further use by the railway company of tracks In the disputed district. The state of Illinois is rep resented among1 the claimants by ca nal trustees, who assert an interest In the matter in dispute. Among (Other claimants are said to be mem bers of the family of President Roose velt and the heirs of Mrs Sanger, mother of Mrs George M. Pullman In case the court finds it impossible to dispossess the company, It is asked to direct it to pay the claimants $3,411,000, declared to be the market value of the land The city of Chicago is made a de fendant because of alleged wrongful acts in permitting the railway com pany to monopolize Stewart avenue to the exclusion of public traffic, and It is alleged that title to the land re verted to the heirs of the original owneis of abutting property. Des Moines, Iowa, June 1 The Des Moines, Iowa Falls & Northern railroad kas commenced the survey of a line north from Iowa Falls, Iowa, in the direction of Iowa City, and the announcement is made semiofficially that the road will go north from Iowa Falls this fall and will probably reach Mason City in the winter or early spring months It is proposed to cover about sixty miles, twenty miles of which is almost parallel with the Iowa Central. No Stopovers Here. At the recent medical congress held*in St Petersburg, the section on hygiene passed singularly bold resolutions, declar ing it to be impossible to spread hygienic knowledge among the people under the present regime, calling for the suppression of the censorship, which now tne doctors assert, prevents them from teaching the people either by speech or writing, de manding that any one shall be free to or ganize committees of public instruction, and urging that the present arbitrary power of government officials to suppress anybody and anything be limited to the right to prosecute those who break the laws The sections of medicine and hygiene, in joint session, passed resolutions de claring that "to combat effectively the alcoholism so prevalent in Russia, there must be individual liberty, freedom of the press and of public meetings, or der to make known the dangers of drunk enness and its real causes", also that the compulsoiy concentration of the Jews within the prescribed narrow limits is un hygienic, and that they ought to be al lowed to circulate freely When the secretaries of these sections read the report of the adoption of tht resolutions, the president of the congress, in terror, ordered the band to drown their voices by playing the national hymn The audience retorted by singing the "Mar seillaise Other Significant Items.
