Orders for railroad equipment show that business is looking up. Urgent orders for over 20,000 cars of all kinds have been placed with the builders. The New York Central will take 3,000, the Pennsylvania 6,000, and the Lehigh Valley 1,600. President Roswell Miller of the Mil waukee road says his company is doing more business at this time than it did at the same time last year. "Our grain traffic may not be so heavy," he said, "but the volume of business of other kinds will be larger. We are building quite a number of new locomotives and box cars, and will be ready for the rush." APPLICATION DENIED Arbitrary Route Shipments of Fruit Shipments at Initial Points. Los Angeles, Cal., Oct. 21.Judge Wellborn, in the United States circuit court, has made a decision in the fruit routing cases, denying the application for a stay of execution asked for by the railroads upon the former decision of the court, which decision denied right to arbitrarily route shipments of fruit at the initial shipping point. The attorneys for the railroads gave notice of appeal from Judge Wellborn's latest decision, both to the circuit court of appeals and the United States su preme court. New York, Oet.21.The Ontario & Western stockholders' committee has sent out a circular to those stockhold ers who supported it in the fight for the dissolution of the Ontario voting trust, advising them to support the management of the company at the coming special meeting of stockholders to consider the financial plan, which, Fresident Fowler promises, will mean the declaration of a dividend and the dissolution of the trust. SOO WON'T SELL Grand Trunk Must Build from Here to Winnipeg. Attenuated with age, the rumor of the purchase of the Wisconsin Central by the Grand Trunk Pacific for a line into Chicago is revived. The sale is said to have been made immediately after, the annual meeting. Instead of buying the new Soo line and building from Min neapolis to Chicago, as it is reported the plan ran, the company will have to build from Minneapolis to Winnipeg, because of the Soo's refusal to sell. The line is already in operation from Jennings, on the main line west in Montana, to a point across the interna tional boundary. The Lake Washington Belt line, with head quarters in Seattle which has been under con struction for more than two years, will be turned over to the Northern Pacific by the contractors tomorrow and will be immediately opened for operation.
