Omaha, Neb., Nov. 17.Mrs-. Naomi
D. Wells, aped 70, for seven years has
kept a hgKt burning at night in the
window of her humble cottage on Sew
ard street the hope that her sou,
Frank D. Wells, who disappeared seven
years ago, may return to her.
She is destitute circumstances, and
every effort has been made to induce
her to go to the old ladies' home, but
despite her extreme poverty she stub
bornly refuses to leave the little home
to which she expects her lost boy to

with two companions, set out for a
lourney down the Missouri river in a
houseboat His mothei gave him $400
before he left Soon after he went away
the mother received word that he had
been killed in St. Joseph.
She went to St Joseph, had the body
exhumed, declared it was not that of
her son, and returned home and ever
since has kept a lighted lamp the
window of her cottage. The son was
an only child and a graduate of the

Norfolk, Neb Nov 17 A serious
epidemic of typhoid fever has broken
out thru northern Nebraska, and the dis
ease is reaping a harvest of many lives
every day The cause of the illness
has not been determined I is asserted
by some that in Norfolk the standpipe,
which has no screen over the top, is re
sponsible, being, it is alleged, filled with
dozens of dead birds.

visability of submitting to the republi
can voters of Custer county the question
of the selection of United States sen
ator. Mr. Burt is desirous of ascer
taming the will of the people of Cus
tor county in the mattei, and says he
will cast his vote tor whomsoever may
seem to be the popular choice.

ter, he will send a postal card to each
republican voter and request him to
name the person he would have the Cus
ter count-y legislators vote for The
person who appears to be the most in
