NEW G. N. LAKE TRAINS
SCHEDULE PROMISED JUNE 3
WILL BE A GREAT IMPROVE-
MENTEIGHT TRAINS EACH
WAY. The Great Northern has a pleasant
surprise in store for its Minnetonka pa
trons. The operating and passenger
departments have been for some time
figuring on a time eard for the most
complete and frequent lake service ever
Enally
rovided in summer. The problem has
been solved in a highly satisfac
tory manner, and the new schedule will
go into effect on Jun*e 3. There are a
number of new features that will com
mend themselves not only to dwellers
on the north shore of Minnetonka, but
to those who travel thither occasionally.
There will be eight trains a day each
way. Three of 'them will start from
and run to St. Paul. Minneapolis will
be the terminal for the other five.
Fishermen will be glad to learn that
there will be a daily train leaving Mm
neapolis at G:30 a.m., which will land
them at the lake before the fish have
finished their morwing feeding. Two
other new outgoing trains are an
nounced, one leaving at 3:30 p.m. daily,
and one at 5:42 p.m. daily. These will
fhosee
irov a great convenience, one for
who cannot take the 2 p.m. train,
and the other for those who find the
5:07 p.m. train a little early, and vet
do not like to wait for the Hutch'' at
6:10. These with the present 9:15 a.m.
and the new 8:25 p.m. tram complete
the list of outgoing trams.
For the morning travel to the city
there will be three trains, leaving
Mound at 7, 7:30 and 7:59 a.m. The first
will land its passengers in the city at
7:45, nearly half an hour earlier than
ever before. It is expected that this
train will permit many men who must
reach their business by 8 o'clock in the
morning to spend a season at the lake.
This has heretofore been impossible for
those so situated. The second an'd third
trains will take care of those who do
not need to start so early. The af
ternoon trains leave Mound at 1:30,
3:30, 4:40, 7:13 and 9 p.m. These will
permit those who go out for the day to
spend as many or as few hours as they
like before returning. There are late
Friday and Saturday night trains leav
ing the pity at 10-40 an'd Mound at
10:15 p.m. The Sunday schedule is as
follows:
Leaving Minneapolis, 6:30. 9:35 and
9:45 a.m., 2, 3:30, 5:07, 5:42 and 8:25
p.m.
Leaving Mound, 7, 7:30 and 11:10
a.m., 1:30, 4:40, 6, 7:15 and 9 p.m.
Under the stimulus of such a com
plete train service, the north shore is
expected to flourish as never before.
Already the prospects for an unparal
leled season are bright.
NEW LAKE LAUNCH
Captain Johnson Puts "Mr. Buttinsky"
In Commission.
"Mr. Buttinskv" is the name of the
new gasoline launch which Captain J.
E. Johnson, commodore of the Lake
Minnetonka Transportation company,
will put into service Sunday. "With the
new Pilgrim it will be used to carry
small parties. "Mr. Buttinsky" will
carry forty passengers, and the Pilgrim
will load 125. The capacity of the
fleet is large, as the well-known steam
ers in commission last year will be
floated as usual. The Puritan's capaci
ty is 300, that of the Plymouth 200,
the Mayflower 150, and the barge Pris
cilia 500. Old lake navigators are
wondering what is the significance of
the appellation of the gasolene boat.
Sam Ellis, who is again excursion agent
for the line, only smiles silently when
asked for information.
SPRING REALLY HERE
First Open Car of the Season Appears on
Street Car Lines.
Spring was formally recognized by the
street railway company this morning. As
the rays of the morning sun began to
tint the green tipped tips of the trees
along Bloomington avenue about 6.01
a.m., waiters and watchers along the line
saw one of the old wind-splitter open
cars came bowling down the avenue. The
curtains were down and the conductor and
driver appeared a trifle chilled, but man
fully stuck to the bluff. As the car
rounded the corner of First avenue S and
Fourth street at 6:28 the crowd inside be
gan to sing, "In the Good Old Summer
Time," to let the whole downtown world
know how they felt about it.
