''"Women have been complaining about the prices they have been re quired to pay for ^684" said a lead- flove dealer today. lut wait until they learn of the ad vances in prices all along the line and you will hear great waifing and there will be a gnashing of teeth. Milady will have her kid gloved .lust the same, tho a pair will cost as much as a small boy's suit of clothes. "The manufacturers have notified us of advances of from 15 to 25 per cent on short and long kid gloves of all kinds. Dealers who were fortunate enough to place their fall orders early last spring will own their stocks at some of the old prices, but on duplicate orders they will be compelled to stand the raise and the dear public will be called upon for more money. In spite of local reports that long sleeves will be the mode in women's (ferments for fall, the leading European and east ern authorities on fashions predict a continuance of the short sleeve and the coming season will find as great a demand for long glace gloves as ob tained last fall. "Scarcity of leather is the principal reason for the advance in glove prices. Long gloves, which have had such great call ail over the world, require three times the amount of leather needed to make short gloves and this fact, as well as the natural and general diminu tion of the supply of leather, is respon sible for the raise. Black gloves will continue to be good this fall tho golden tans and cinnamon browns will oe in demand.'' YOUN O N GRAIN" CASE ATTORNEY GENERAL SAYS CENT A BUSHEL COMMISSION RULE IS MAIN POINT IN CASE. Attorney General E. T. Fancy Duchess Apples, peck.. -45c Blueberries and Pie Cherries, qt boxes IO uestion whether a grain exchange can against outsiders in charging commissions. This is the main point in the case of the state against the Duluth Board of Trade, brought under the anti-trust law. The testi mony in this case was finished yester day and an adjournment taken till Aug. 17. At that time briefs will be filed and oral arguments heard. Mr. Young declined to discuss the evi dence, in advance of a decision. He says that the main object of the case, securing an open market for grain in Duluth, has been attained already. He does not seek to put the Board of Trade out of business, and recognizes that as an Institution it is indispensable. He does hold that it is discrimination to fix a uniform charge of 1 cent a bushel on grain sold for outsiders by members, while there is no rule for charges be tween members. This rule, the state claims, is in violation of the anti-trust law, and the court is asked to order the rule abandoned, so as to make an absolutely open market. "i h, LON FOUGH MND CASE AGJfiK' DECIDED 1 Judge John Day Smith today sus tainea a demurrer to the supplemental complaint in the case of George H. Selover against the Isle Harbor Land company. The order, in knocking out tjie complaint, prevents the plaintiff for the present from compelling the defendant company to pay him one third of its net profits of issuing him 30 per cent of the company stock, and from forcing the company into the hands of a receiver. The case has been in the district and supreme court in one form or another for nearly two years, and it is impor tant in that it involves a third interest in holdings of land in Itasca and Mille Lacs counties, aggregating about 100,- 000 acres. Upon the original trial oiS the case in the district court, it was decided that Mr. Selover was entitled to a share in the company's profits, but that he was not then entitled to an accounting and must wait until the land had been disposed of and the busi ness of the company had been settled up before he could get his share. The lower court was affirmed by the su preme court. The plaintiff then served and filed a supplemental complaint ask ing mor than he had the original comlainte Defendant'sindemurrer to this complaint was sustained by Judge Smith. W. S. O GOMMEEGIA WEST W. S. Jones, who sold the Commercial Bulletin last spring, has identified him self with his brother, H. V. Jones, in the Commercial West and will be busi ness manager of that publication. The offices of the Commercial West were moved today from*the Metropolitan Life building to a handsome'suite on the second floor pf the Lumber Ex change, and it is the expectation of the reorganized management to expand the paper in every waV. The Commercial West, was established in 1901 by H. V. Jones, who has been president and editor. As an exponent of financial, commercial, industrial and crop conditions imthe middle west, it has had a steady_growth in circulation and influence. Having overcome the handicap of being a new publication, it offers a fine opportunity for still more rapid development thru a finer division of work among the men in charge. With a business manager who has made a notable success in the special periodical field, the editor will have more time to devote to his own particular depart ment, and it is expected that the publi cation will soon assume proportions which it has never before attained.
