III ' 6 THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, WEDNESDAY MORNING, AUGUST 23, 1911. M I 1ST IS DAZED fi PjOCHE DEAL Kaleidoscopic Change in the Nevada-Utah Affairs Is Rather Dazzling. ALL ARE WONDERING WHAT COMES NBXT Statement From Vogelstein May Be Issued to Set All Things Right. Stockholders of the Nevada-Utab and Ohio-Kentucky companies are somewhat dazd at the moving picture programme accorded them during: the past few weeks In the affairs of both companies. Just as the merger deals of the Ploche prop erties were reported to have been round ed out successfully, and when E. P. Woolley was thought to he firmly seat ed In tho saddle with a pleasant and prosperous Journey straight ahead, tho !MM film kept unrolling and an entirely new Interest, new as far as shareholders MM were concerned, enters the scene and be- Mm jrlnn tho riding stunt. MM Western stockholders expect, and they have a right to expect that Vogelstoln ! & Co., the new rulers of the Piocho des- MW tlnles, will Issue a statement within the MOt near future giving them som Idea of MM what the future programme holds and MjM Just tho measure, as near as can bo jHH told, of the assets behind the various Mm companies affected by the twist things have taken. Mm It was reported here on Tuesday that 'MM -100,000 shares of Ktock of the Amalga- MM mated Ploche company had been placed Mn In the hands nf the Consolidated Ploclia mam secretary, which stock is to be distributed I at a noar date equally to the Consolidated SM Ploche and Ohio-Kentucky shareholders. mm The Amalgamated Piocho evidently Ib to l-MM be tho (ueen bee of the Ploche hive, and iH while the property Interests of this com- HE pany are well enough understood there MM Is some uncertainty regarding other I phases of the organization. mmi Information Is desired, for instance, MM as to the issued capitalization and the Mm bonded indebtedness, if there Is a bond- mm cd debt. Xo adequate Idea can be formed 'MM of the value of the stock until this lat- MM ter phase Is cleared up properly. As a mntter of fact, tlitf west hardly knows MM what to think, an I something authorl- tatlve from the now owners of the con- j trol will be greatly appreciated at this MM end of the land. I MASON VALLEY WORK IS PROGRESSING FAST Reports from the west state that very sntlsfaetorv progress is being mado at the Mason Valley smelter. The erection of the steel superstructure is now going on, thf framowork for the power house Is in place and the sampling mill Is well along townrd completion. The big 200 foot stack for the smelter was finished on July 22, and at present the greater portion' of the flue and lust chamber has been completed, say Thompson. Towle & A large quantity of mnchlnery, such as. electrical equipment, locomotives, slag cars, blowers, blast furnace, material, etc., arrived at tho smelter during July. In addition to these supplies the com pany's machine shops arc now operating and arc busy manufacturing blast pipes, down -takes and other sheet Iron work which will be employed In the construc tion of the plant. Ample protoctlon is being made by the Mason Valley "management against fire, and pipe lines for this purpose and gen eral water supply are now being Installed, as !s also a permanent pumping station at the springs. Pipe linos are being laid from the artesian wells to tho smelter site, assuring excellent water for domes tic purposes. A contract has been made for a sintering machine which will be Installed for the purpose of treating flue dust, fine ores and concentrates. ICHIN0 COMPANY NEAR TJIE PRODUCING POINT It was reported from the east on Tuesday that the Chlno concentrating plant In New Mexico was being given Its preliminary turnlnc-over preparatory to being placed into commission, ns far as the first section ( - concerned, as a pro ducing proposition. Ore should be mach ine the tables by the first of the month at least, and tho Chlno will then take its place as one of the partially comnlfttod new copper producers with its scope of usefulness only a matter of continual betterment. Word Is expected at any time that the fourth section of the Ray Consoli dated mill will be In active running or der. It was expected that this section would be In operation by the first of Au gust, but tho delay Is understood to havo been due to the necessity of some alter ations in the power house. Addltlona1 engines were rcnulrcd. it is said, and no necessity existed for n change In con centrating plans aH fur the mill It self was concerned, as tias been n ported. With four sections operating, the Ray Consolidated will be 50 per cent com pleted. It Is thought that It Is the In tention of the company to strive to get the whole plant In good trim before a' tempting to crowd any one section al ready In commission. SOUTH HECLA WILL GIJfOIJTIO! Stockholders Will Leam Some Very Interesting Details at Coming Meeting. The notification Issued recently to the South Hecla shareholders that they are to meet next month to ratify a. sale of the property In Alto, to tho merger now being perfected by the Edwards-IIalro In terests, was tho first positive hint the public has received that such merger deal Is progressing to the positive point. A not too careful reading of tho South Hecla notification might raise tho pre sumption that when the stockholders meet for the purpose Intended all they will know of tho deal from their own stand point Is that thy are to receive 120,000 shores of the new mnrger company In ex change for their 210,000 shares of South Hecla. It la a fact, however, that tho stockholders will be given the contract signed by their directors with tho merg ing internets, in which the dotallB of the consolidation will be made plain. One close to the inside stated on Tuos-j day that the capitalization of the new company will be made known, also the number of groups already definitely known to be Imolvod In tho deal with such others as may posslhlv be Included. Tho fact that there are one or two Im portant doals still ponding for Alia ground prevents the whole plan from being marie known to tho world at tho present time. 0HJ0 COPPER REFLECTS THE POSSIBLE SUNLIGHT The apparent likelihood that sunlisht Is to penetrate the Ohio Copper financial clouds soon was responsible for this l3suc becoming the feature Tuesday on the lo cal exchange. Inasmuch as this stock retained Its low range on tho eastern markets, It was evident that, the local appreciation In value was due to local buying, Just ns local buying has been more markod than that In the cast for a year past. TO GIVE IN YET May Complete Deal for Operat ing by Way of Grand Central. One close enough to the King William Mining company to know whereof ho ppeaks stated Tuesday that the closing down at Tinttc or operations 'by way of the Eagle nnd Blue Bell property did not moan that the company was defunct nor that the officials hnd reached the deter mination of censing work Indefinitely. Operations via the Eagle and Blue Bell, he pointed out, have not been productive of tho. results expected, and tho officials havo decided to stop work until arrange ments have been completed which will place tho company In possession of tho means to demonstrate tho merits of tho group nt Tlntlc one way or tho other. "This closing down, ho stated, "was in familiar language for the good of tho order. To go after the King William property in the proper manner will take plonty of capital, more than Is now con tained In the treasury. Some moans of raising this required capital will be pro vided, but Just how this will be done remains to be solved- It Is understood that the officials believe more satisfactory progress can be made by working through the Grand Central property Instead of the Eagle and Blue Bell, but how far any ncgollatlons with the Grand Central have progressed Is not now known positively outside of Inner circles." There are some vorv strong financial Interests back of the King William, and the property Is splendidly located In tho heart of Tlntlc Those two considerations inspire tho feeling locally that the prop orty will bo openod loglcallv in good time It is surrounded by the Ccntennlal-Eu-reka, Grand Central. Eagle and Blue Bell and Victoria, and If nature passed Up this King William block of territory, making It a barren Island In such a sea of min eral, It will he one of those peculiar twists of fate for which there can be no satisfactory reason advanced. STOCKS COMING OUT AT ALL OPPORTUNITIES James A. Pollock & Co., bankers and brokers, furnish the following, recelvod over their private wire yesterday after noon' Paine, Webber & Co., Boston. The New York lint continued weak and nervous again today, with heavy liquidation every time the market would take It. The principal actlvltv in tho local coppers was confined to Arizona Commercial, which made a now low level at 21, with no rally, the bonds, which were slightly stronger nnd in better demand, selling up to 5. Corbln and Shannon wore both quiet and strong. Indiana was weak at 8, Algomah at 53 and Franklin at S. We do not see nn' Immediate change In con ditions and think that the coppers may continue to sag on scattered selling If the heavy liquidation In the railways and In dustrials continues. Hornblower 6 Weeks, Boston. Today's copper share market was Irrogular. al though tho tone was somewhat better. The buying today, while not aggressive, was considered good. Traders seemed Inclined to buy a few stocks on drives. We have had considerable of a shake-out lately, and It would seem that some sort of a rally should be seen soon. Senti ment Is somewhat mixed on a good many stocks, but at the same time prices look rather low. While the New York list continues irregular little can be looked for here. The close was steady but dull Gallagher Letter, New York. Strengm In Stewart Mining, which was bid up to $1 nt the opening, Is attributed to the favorable quarterly report of ihe com pany. Braden Copper and Ohio had a slightly better tone. Greene Cannnea sold off to 61, there being very little or no support here for the stock. Standard Oil gained 3 points on the day, closing at 600. American Tobacco lost 2 points, closing at 374. Sioux was strong here with sales at 29. which was high. JARBIDGE ENJOYS AN ENTIRELY NEW FIND In a letter to Salt Lake friends Tues day, Wlnthrop W Fisk of Jarbldge gave Information regarding the latest develop ment in that camp. The new discovery of gold Is all to the east of the zone considered nro-on heretofore, nnd In what Is known as the Fifth Crater or Cougar Creek Basin. Mark Lefflor and A. Waters have located seven claims which they have termed the Bacon group. Twenty-five holes have been driven on tho new vein apd gold values made their appearance in each. On the strike becoming known there was a rush to locate properties along the same vein, nnd several Interesting finds have been registered as a rsult during the past few days. One group of ten claims known as the Colonel George Is reported to havo been sold already. Mr Fisk tolls of several deals recently pulled off In Jarbldge. emphasizing that the real era of confidence on the part of capital is just beginning. The new road from Dooth Is finished, and autos mako the trip with passengers In about six hours. ALLEGANY COMPANY HAS SPRING VALLEY LUCK News came to Evanston last week to the effect that the Allegany company had brought In a ninety-barrel producer at the remarkably low depth of 170 foot. The well is located about 200 feet west of their camp, on section 23. and is one mile west of the station- The refinery people have already laid pipe lines and made connections to the company's largo iron storage tanks, and are pumDing out oil today. Wells a this shallow depth and of this caliber are certainly wonders, and oil at $1 f to J1.90 per barrel at the wells maker oneof tne greatest propositions known. J. C. Roberts, president and manager of the company, and P. W Spauldlnir vice president, are In the field this week and are very Jubilant over the company's great success. Wyomlnc Press. The fact that four heavily laden fourr horse oro teams left the Alta district on Monday for the sampler at Sandy did not escape the eagle eyes of those always on the lookout for sensations, nor was it overlooked when the source of this ore was concerned. The teams came from tho Alta Consolidated prop erty, tho youngest organization of the camp, which has ontered the producing list within one month of its organiza tion. The Alta Consolidated company Is composed ofilclally of many of the for mer Columbus Consolidated company, In cluding Tony Jacobson, A. O. Jacobson, Val S. Snow, Engineer Wlnwood and Hans Wonder, among others. As noar as could bo gathered unofficial ly, tho Alta Consolidated management, under tho direction of A. O. Jacobson. has driven into three or four feet of high-grade silver and lead ore, the sil ver values especially running Into most comforting altitudes. It Is learned in addition that tho point of discovery pre sents at least 800 feet of sloping ground. It seems, therefore, that there is an other producer born In the Alta district, and that the Jacobson Interests have opened something in that old camp which will assume surprising proportions be fore the public Is aware of the fact.
