Brv ct)urins the our months that this prop rty haB been under control of the prca cut owners, tho circular states excel -lent progress haa been made In tho de velopmcnt and preparation for production of tlila enterprise. Tho actual development of the oro has ho far been principally confined to what jU rc known aa the "Peraovcrunce 1 worlt jjH InsH. Tho cast drift on the "Alexander jjH level Is now out something over 1U0 BjH feet, and In unothcr month will have J been extended to tho 2000-foot point. 1 Here a second shaft will bu sunk to the ff Sheep Creek level. These shafts arc Tor manways und ore chutes: actual mining J of the ore will bo from the Sheep Creek H tunnel level and will be done by gravity. 1 This Sheep Creek tuunul Is bclny driven 1, to Intercept tho deposit 700 feet below BHr the present loweat workings. D. C. j .Tackling ha-s just returned fro in" a second J visit to the property and reports that J This in hull)? udvauccd at the rate of J ' oOO foet a month. v At Interesting Point. At the tlmo or his visit It wa just J entering tho mineralized zone, where ore J- conditions correspond exactly with thoto J , at the "Perseverance" cud, indicating 1 ylronrly that similar values will be found N I at tints point. If this proves to be the J r vase, tho Indicated ore .reserve will bo 1 greatly Increased. This tunnel Should be In tho vein proper in a few weeks. H A matter of prime Importance is that J J at an adjoining property this same dc- J f ;oslt has recently been encountered 1000 (rH fcot below tho lowest workings of the H Maska. and shows excellent values at 1 ' this depth. At (he time tho property J was taken over, the definitely indicated JH oro reserved v.'ero conservatively cstl- inalrd by tho engineers at 50,000.000 tons. so that there is every reason to believe , ibat these -will, ultimately, be proven br ' development to rim into tho hundreds BJL-' or millions of tons. At tho mill site, timber ha bcon clcarod BLJ for an areaoflCOO feet square. Con&trun- BJflT lion will begin as soon as the best meth- J' mis of treating tho ore have been Anally j determined on. and there Is no doubt j tmi that the mill can be completed as PH soon aa the mine Is ready to furnish the j ore Present plans call for a mill of H (1000 tons daily capacity, and provision j will bo made so that uddltiouui units can J nislly bo built. A dam, probably t?9-0 J feet, high, will bo built on what is known- PH as Salmon creek, and a hydntulic elec- E trie power station constructed of C0C0- T 'lorsepower capacity. Climatic conditions arc Ruch as easily permit of work at, M the property the year round. iH Big Tonnage Project. Ttegardlng the estimate of 75 cents per ton for all expenses, the circular ays that an abtolutc confirmation has hcoti HccurmJ from Ute operation of the little old mill belonging to the previous j company. Mining and treating an avcr age of less than 500 tons a day. the ex ponscs of all kinds for tho nino months j of operation In 101" were SI cents a ton. 1 In conclusion the circular states that -.t is not at all Improbable that oventu ally the company will treat as high as 1 20.000 tons a. day, or 7,000,000 tons a year. This may involvo the Issuance of addl tlono. secnnltlcB. but It will not bo at anj thing like tho same proportion, so j that the probability of earnings per share, vrreatly In excess of thoso Indicated In the original report, are excellent. It is stated that when the tlnal, rqports are Issued for 1912 Itl will be shown that operations netted the company approximately 21 per cent, the production, off ore being made exclusively by way of the old El Poao abaft. The new Nichols shaft was not avallnblo during the jiear. but It now Is In commission, the new equipment Is as up-to-date as the machinery world cuti supply und its use Is expected to practically double Jhe production and earnings of tho organisation during the year. i The Roosevelt tunnel has done wonder.? for this proposition, and the territory un walerod by this mean was given con siderable development attention last year. REPORT OF LOWER Mil Company Closes Past Season Graduated From Assess ment Columns. IS MAKING OWN WAY Zinc Ore Again Influences Conditions at the Mines of Tin tic. . Coplc? ef the annual report of the Lower Mammoth company were released for publication Qn Thursday, the annual stockholders' meeting having been held on last Monday, General Manager J. C. Dick's report and the. financial statement for tho year ending last December 31 follow: Since issuing the tjciui-nnnual state ment, July 1, 1912, am pleased .to re port a very much Improved condition at I he mine. On August ?, 1912, we had collected all of assessment No. 29. It about cleaned up our Indebtedness, hut ion September 1 we still had an overdraft I of 51770..VJ. On .Innnavy 1, 1913. wo have cash on hand of 511i;L' 19, or the mine has made ii protlt within the hist four months of ?29S2.02. With the exception of one car of copper ore our revenues have boon derived from zinc ore, of which we have shipped ten cars. Zinc Is an Asset. Our prospecting within tho past six mouths has been in general rjulte satis factory. We ha 0 driven about 1600 feet of drifts and crosscuts and 3U0 feet of upraises. In some Instances results were discouraging while In others we have been repaid for our efforts. I believe your company has a very valuable asset In tho low-grade zinc ore that had been partially developed within the past six months. This deposit Is shown on the 1300. 1400, 1500, 1700 and 1800-foot levels. There Is a probable ton nage here of 150.000 tons lhat will assay about 12 per cent zinc. At the present price of JSlnc this has a pross valuo of 517 per ton. Owing to the high coel of .smelling zinc ores and transportation cost, this Is a useless product unless wc find somo method of concentrating or re ducing It. Wc are doing some experimen tal work at present and believe- that in the end wc shall ha successful in mak ing this a source of wealth. Assessments Over. The drift being driven in virgin ground in the southwest portion of our territory has followed a very persistent Assure for 340 feet arid has been mineralised most of the way. V?o ha'e had some very good assays from bunches of oro along the drift. In one place tho showing of ore Is strong for some fifty feet on the strike. This Is low-grade lead oro. avoracMng per haps 12 per cent load, with very little sil ver. Wc aro continuing this drift to the south, believing that ore of a uhlpplng irrado will be encountered at the llinc porphyry contact that lies farther south. Tho amount of sslnc or of a shipping grade that wc have In slsht Is rather Indeterminate. The showing, however. Is still good, and I believe that from ore in slpht and probable ore wc will derive revenue the next year sufficient lo thor oughly prospect our ground, hoping in tho mcantlmo to encoutcr bodies of lead and copper orcB, and ateo to determine somo method of concentration or reduc tion that will enable us to work our low grade sine oro at a profit. J. Evans Again Empha sizes the Importance of Right Information. When .inked on Thursday what prog rcso thu Salt Lake stock and mining exchange was making in the organiza tion of Its publicity bureau, Presldont II, J. Eva nfa replied that the circular letter bettlnp; forth the needs and pur poses of th0 bureau was belnr mailed yesterday, accompanying which were postal cards on which the exchange de sires those interested to so signify with out delay. Mr. ISvans added: The expressions as shown bv these cards will determine whether the or ganization will be effected or not. It bus been stated already that un lets thero Is a reasonably strong disposition on the purt of the busi ness men to do their full share in support of this work, that no fur ther effort avIII be made lo acquire for the benefit of the public the In formation so necessary to tho con tinued success of the mlnlner busi ness. Exchange Is Barometer. Wc believe the records will show that two-thirds of tho money that goes Into the purchase of mining slocks, or for the development of the mining Industry, comes from tho east. Tho business men of this cltv do not appreciate this, nor what It means to them, simply because they have not paused to give the matter Itu due consideration. When it is known that thu exchange nan done aa IiIkIi as $17,000,000 worth of busi ness in one year, and that this busi ness today Is only one-eighth of this, or slightly bettor than ?2,000,000, It will be shoyvn clearly that mere is need for creatine: an eastern Interest anew In our mining industry as out lined In our circular letter. Thero can bu no question but that through the various avenues of the mining Industry from 55.000.000 to 510,000.000 annually could bo brought Into Utah if the business men would make the proper efforts. This Is not a matter to be treated lightly, and the lack of this custcrn development capital will be felt more severely ' than ever from now on. When the stock business In Salt Lake Is good the merchants and everyone el.o aro enjoying prosperity, but when mining shared arc depressed beyond tholr Intrinsic valuo, and when our hills are as barren, of the developer or the new mine aa they arc today, every branch of Industrial effort of necessity feels the effects. Capital Is Lacking. Unless our biiblncss men possess the proper information they cannot Impart It lo others. There is a way to get this Information, und when wo leave our business or pleasure for tho coat we can 30W the seeds of knowledge and enthusiasm which will result in a harvest of prosperity for the whole community. It has been asked why there have not been more new mines brought to a productive basis durlne the past two years, and the answer Is very plain there has been no now money brought into the stato for thlo pur pose, and without this tho stato need not expect to add new producers and dividend payers an the years wear on. Oro Shipments. Tnc Utah Ore Sampling conipau on Thursday rclea..-d fi cars of ore from Utah and 5 from Colorado camps. I SEUKH FOR POTASH (MM AREA Railroad Valley Work Being Prosecuted by Private Capi tal in Nevada. Ever since the controversy with Ger many In regard to the potash supplies so much In need in America, private capital as well as government energy has been expended liberally upon demonstrating that this rcsourcoful country Is capablo of taking care of Itself, potash-wlae. The government has done a great deal of ex ploratory work in Nevada and elsowhere, Utah has been considered within the scope of promise with the Marysvnlo n.lunltc discoveries, and In the Railroad valley of Nevada the company of like name has been doing a great amount of drilling to explore a great dry lake within Its boundary lines. Eight holes have been sent to depth across this lake east and west, and ten additional holes at right angles to the tirst series will be driven Immediately. Several of tho drill holos havo shown a splendid percentage of potash, and the company intends lo contlnuo drilling until the most likely location Is found for deeper work after valuable commercial duposlts. A side Issue of the Railroad Valley com pany Is the Irrigation of a largo acreage of agricultural land ncarbv, and search for artesian water will be undertaken shortly for this purpose. The opera tions of this company arc being watched both by tho United States and German potash authorities, as, indeed, aro all the operations In this country In search of this valuable substance so much In de mattd In commercial circles. PETROLEUM NIGHT AT : ENGINEERS' SOCIETY ; The Utah Society of Engineers will 1 hold their regular monthly meeting to- I night at the ueuuI rooms In the Kcw hoitEC building at 8 o'clock, and It will 1 I be petroleum evening, throughout "which the oil resources of Utah will be dealt I with by recognized authorities. J. C. . Howard, president of the Utah Oil Tie- fining company, will dlocuss the subject. "Potrolcum Crude Oils and Their Re fining Value." and Dr. V. J. Pack of the University of Utah will-discuss tho "Go ology of tho Oil Fields of Utah." The public is invited. . On Saturday afternoon the aoclelv will visit the plant of the Utah Oil rtcflnlng ' company, taklnir the North Salt Lake street car at 2:?,n o'clock. BUCKSKIN IS COMING INTO ITS OWN AGAIN linckakln, one of the Nevada mining camps that enjoyed a share of the great boom In mining a few years ago has emphasized Its location upon tho' map once more by being the home of a regu lar 010 shipper to the Mason Vallev custom smelter, and there are some ad ditional properties there now being op erated In order to have them In produc tion shapo by tho time the Nevada Cop por Belt Railroad company concludes lo extend its line Into tho camp. Such Tall road extension is expected shortlv Ore and Bullion. ' The ore and bullion report for Thurs- day, given by McComlck ."fc Co., was afl, follows- Ore received, $80,000: bullion j shipped, ?liC,000 total, ?'J0C,000. ? HURRY TO ROCHESTER BY SHORTEST ROUTE An interesting competition may be ex pected shortly when tho little railroad aiding which has long lingered In neglect under tho never-heard najno of Oreana begins to hustlo aftor tho business of tho Rochester camp. Oreana Is about twelvo miles from Rochester, while Lovo lock Is twenty or more by tho newest auto line, and as a boom camp la the target for the capitalist which must be gained with tho least possible delay, Oreana may secure a liberal aharo of tho Rochester travel.
