FOR WARSTOCKS
These and Specialties Set

TAKE LOAN FOR GRANTED
Bethlehem, Crucible, Alcohol, and
Allis-Chalmers in Good Demand,
but Drop Is Expected.
New York. Sept. 15. Today's stock mar
ket was a duplication of the previous
Fission, the war stocks and specialties
monopolizing: the attention' with new
hiprh records. Bethlehem Steel and
Crucible Steel were most prominent. The
balance of the list displayed a waitinK
attitude, pending the consummation of
the huBc war loan.
Veteran traders, however, have taken
time by the forelock and made long
commitments on the basis that the loan
will be a success and the expectation
based on past events that there will be
a Filip in the Keneral list when formal
announcement is made of its success.
As the loan will give added Impetus to
our export trade and promises addi
tional orders for munitions the general
market is exacted to reflect this im

accumulation that has been going on
for nt least three weeks. While rumors
are current of the resumption of divi
dends on the first preferred in the im
mediate future, these are not taken
siTioui-ly by persons who have been pur
chasing the shares and are familiar
with the views of the insiders.
Itatlsrny .Stock Heavy.
Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific was
heavy, owing to uncertainty regarding
the payment of the interest of the de
bentures. While it has been declared
that the money has bo-n raised. It has
not been deposited with the First Na
tional Bank, which pays the interest.
The delay, however, is believed to be
due to the physical work of issuing the
receivers" certificates and placing them
with the people who have promised to
purchase them, and thus supply the
funds needed for the interest.
Owing to the vigorous advance of the
war stocks, one prominent odd-lot house
is refusing to take orders for the pur
chase of Bethlehem Steel, Crucible Steel
and the high-priced motor stocks, except
for cash. At the same time, large com
mission houses are accepting orders in
thrso stocks only from old customers,
and then insisting on margins ranging
from 1". to 20 points. This amply reflects
the apprehension entertained by most
brokers regarding a sudden drop In the
.-bares These brokers say the war stocks

. I' co higher, but they say they want
on the safe side thould a collapse
occur.

In the afternoon, howerer. the bull morement
gained impetus from the eieeptireal stability of
spot, acromtonied by a good demand for the
same. The marktt at Lirerpool closed at a net
sdtancs of 1C4 to 124 roinu for futures. Spot
there was active at a gain of nine points to
6.74 for American middling.
Exporta for the day were 15.193 bales, including
2.112 bales to Great Britain and 13.031 balea to
the Continent Exports on this day last jear
were 1.2V) bales. Oesrance for the season amount
to 251.323 bales, against 32.V6 bales In the corre
simndinz tieriml in 1S1L Port receipts for the
day wens rf.TI talis, against 25.223 bales last
week and 12.571 bales last year.

Chicago. Sept. 15. The arerage trader in wheat
at Chicago, as well as the markets of the North
west, is now figuring on a larger run of that grain.
This was demonstrated by the liberal sales of the
December 'uture on the markets of this country
today. The fact that September continued tight
waa but natiaral, as the cash wheat offering was
grabbed up egrrly by shorts and exporter, and it
was hurriedly taken off the market. With the
month of September out of the way, conditions sur
rounding the wheat market vill show a change for
the better. It will open the road to more liberal

per cent; high, 2 per cent; low, 2 per cent; ruling
rate, 1 per cent.
Time money market remains Inactive while await
ing derelopments in the Anglo-French losn. Some
of the time money brokers sre of the opinion that
any definite encouncement of completion of arrange
ments will harden time money ratca. This will
depend somewhat npon the terms made for sub
scribing for the loan. It is believed that the terms
will follow la s slegree Ihoee made on recent English
war loans, wlgch call fox about 15 per cent for the
first instsumcxit and the balance over a period of
several months. Rates were 2 per cent for ninety
days. 3 per ctnt for four months, 3a3 per cent for
fire and six months, and 4 per cent for twelve
months.
