Federal Eeoerre Report.
The lstest statement of the combined
Federal Reserve system is
particularly interesting aa suggesting
that the expansion of liabllitiea
and reduction of reserve rstio
shown by laat week's statement
was due to special circumstances
and particularly to holiday demands
for cash. It did not, apparently,
represent a reveres! of the general
tendency towsrd credit resources.
This week' rsti^, 61. per cent, represents
a fairly sharp gain over Jast
week's, and is the highest since
July 5. 1918. The gain, which was
due principally to a large return .
of reserve notea waa well dlatributed
among the regional banks.
The larger centers showed sissble
incressea snd only three. Kansaa
City. Atlanta snd Dai las. fell off ta
their own proper reserve position
Of these three, furthermore, only
Dallas showed a large recession.
The bank there was also the only
one to make increased demands on
the other regional banks, borrowing
another $6,000,000. The extent to
which the credit resources of tftat
part of the country are still tied up '
may be judged from the Dallas
| bank's reserve ratio. This would
| stand st 21 S per cent If the bank
were not able to borrow IK.OIO.OM
for reserve purposes from the Boston
bank. The Dallas condition is
the poorest since January SI.
