of 44 per cent over July.
The August total was divided as

on the whole remains bullish, i

Corn and oats, after a Arm start
eased off sharply with wheat, and
on the embargo against Montreal.
Country offerings of corn were
heavy following purchases to arrivo
of 1.600,000 bushels yesterday.
It fa expected that export sales via
Canadian ports will be greatly hampered
by the embargo, although it
has been very noticeable of late that
the bulk of lake charters have been
to Buffalo. Weather conditions generally
were unfavorable for maturing
the crop. Sentiment in oats Is
generally bullish, and all deliveries
told at a new high on the present!

There waa a scramble to buy back
long cotton which had been llqul?i*t.-d
and at the same time there

sold cotton so freely Thurndav and
early esterday r.n the belief the bull 1
movement had been overdone in the j
excited rise in prices here snd at
Liverpool and on the Southern spot
markets during the first half of the
week. Trices started with a rise
of 20 points on October contracts
in the Initial trading. This was extended
to 50 points on December
and nearly 60 on January.
After this opening advance had
brought out the usual profit-taking
by traders with a moderate set-back
in prices, the flood news came In
from San Antonio. Its effect was
to cause another bulge which continued
until the general contrsct !
list had been carried up to J 80 ,
j points over yesterday's closing for
October and 160 for December,
against 150 on January and 130 on !
March. There was a good deal of i
forced buying in of short contracts
on this violent advance which helped
to make the top price. October and
December went up to 21.45. January
21.15. March 20.90 and May about
20 1-2 cents.
As regards the gulf storm the lat- ,
est Weather Bureau reports show ,
that it is still in the Caribbean Sea
and north and west of Curaca. It ;
is moving in a northwesterly direc- j
tion and if it strikes into the cotton 1
belt Sunday o- Monday, it would j
probably be confined to the Texas j
coast, as tropical storms generally
lose their intensity as they progress :
out of the central part of the gulf, i
