ward & Hotlbtop New York?WASHINGTON?Paris. Friday Is Remnant Day. E arc more particular, if possible, than ever about keeping our stocks free from remnant accumulations. We therefore go over the various departments very carefully each week and withdraw all odds and ends, one-of-a-kind articles, broken sizes and assortments, short lengths, mussed, scratched and dented goods, everything that is not fresh and per fect, and offer them at reduced prices?such low prices as usually sell them before the store closes. I'.v this means vou are enabled to secure useful remnants?things that fit right into the personal or home needs?that are in good condition, because they are not allowed to remain in stock long enough to become shopworn or undesirable. And we are enabled to offer at the beginning of each week ju>t Mich bright, fresh, attractive merchandise as you want and have a right to expect. ()ur remnant list this week is very attractive, and consists in part of the following splendid bar gain Friday Bargains aim Dress Goads Dept. mrs in Boys' Siniits. 360 yards Silk Chiffon Voile, se- A lot of Coys' Suits, with knick cured from an importer to sell at ; erbocker pants; broken lines; sizes half the regular price. Including Archduke Salvatore. were present on the Issyles Moulineaux military parade grounds yesterday after noon when Mr. Henry Farman continued his experiments with tils aeroplane. The condition of the ground was heavy In the extreme, but notwithstanding this Mr. Farman succeeded In making about half a dozen flights. The new propeller, of greater diameter than the old one. has given the machine additional lifting power and almost Immediately ,the engine was started the plane left the ground, and. at an altitude varying from two to six me ters. covered a distance of 180 meters. The steadiness of the machine was ap parent to all. It traveled through the ajr without the rolling motion generally as sociated with these .nachlnes In previous flights. But during the second flight, which appeared at the outset to be likely to be of record-breaking duratloi), Mr. Farman had bad luck. While progressing the machine began to turn slightly in the air There was a dense crowd to both right and left, and. worse still, an automobile, temporarily abandoned by Its owner, was in his, path. The only way out of the difficulty was to swerve. This Mr. Farman accomplished brilliantly, but In doing so one wh?el touched the ground for a moment. Realiz ing that Hie flight from a record point of view had been spoiled, he stopped the .motor. The machine couldn't be induced at any of the succeeding attempts to fly more than 1<>0 or 150 meters at a time without touching the ground. Among those present were Don Jaime de Bourbon. Comte d* La Vaulx. Lord and Lady Northclifte, Comte d'Agoult and M. TissandUjr. Pelterie's Machine. Experiments with aeroplanes are taking place dally in every part of France.' more especially in the neighborhood of Paris. Aeronautical circles are much Interested in tjje remarkable machine constructed by M. Esnault Pelterlo. M. Esnault Pel terle has studied aviation for two or three years, and has preferred to go slowly. On Tuesday. It appears, he was able to make a series of flights of 150 meters, turn In the air. avoid obstacles and to rise and descend at will. His machine is described as half auto mobile and half aeroplane. It runs along the ground sfadily and. when required, leaves the ground and ifi^s. In sha?e it resembles a butterfly. Its wings are movable. They can be inclined by means of levers and in this way curves can be accomplished with safety. There are wheels at the tip of each wing, so that even If In taking a curve One of the wings came in contact with the ground it would not be broken. It would roll on tlie wheel and escape darn age. This, in fact, is what took place on Tuesday. The motor is bult by the inventor him self and has. curiously enough. Seven cylinders. It is a light motor, weighing only 44 kilos for the twenty-five horse power it gives. The motor starts at the first turn and causes no trouble. A four-bladed propeller, placed at the front of the machine, has been adopted. The apparatus wejghs barely 300 kilos with the aviator <m board. Dumont's Hydroplane. M. Santos-Duinont has again attempted to make a speed exceeding 100 kilometers an hour with his hydroplane, but aban doned the attempt, owing to Jhe indiffer ent working of the motor. He succeeded, however, in covering 300 meters at a speed estimated at between tifty and sixty kilometers. At Homeward Bound Mission. It is announced that a s?r:non on mil lionaires. the President's fight against the trusts and the signs of the times as shown in the recc-nt fi lanclal crashes will be delivered tomorrow evening by Capt. Theodore Valiant at t'l ? Honv ward Bound Mission, ll'.l Pennsylvinia avenue. His subject will b* "Build Ve Monuments of Flesh and Blood Rather Than of Bricks and Stone." In addition to .the sermon or lectur? ther- will be also a program of music and "-xperlence talks." Christian workers from several of the city churches ara expect-d to be present. Death of Joseph G. Shelton. Joseph G. Shelton died at his residence. 4<)6 12th street southeast, this morning. Funeral services will be held at the home Saturday afternoon.
