, quf Recreation Under Moral-Influences Necessary.
sThefeatures of the Vice Commission's Report which are most
valuable' to parents, are those which point out the dangers "which
menace children on every hand, and show parents hbw to avoid '
them. . r v
The Commission has gone 'into this subject with great care
and thoroughness; and if proper heed, is given the report, parents
can-do "their duty toward theh-little ones so far as economic con
ditions will permit. ' l r
'In general it appears that 'in' Chicago, as in'all large centers of
population, there are rnen and" women who make it their "business"
t& prey upon innocence; and'they begin to throw temptation in front
of little girls even in childhood.
Very of ten, parents are in some measure to t blame: Too often
the-blame can be traced to economic conditions, where'the parents
have 'to work so hard arid so long, that they canft1 provide, depent
home surroundings, let alone keeping' track of children when out
of their sight. ; . ' ' i
The Commission gives information th;at will help parents to
protect their loved ones, if they will only heed the warnings of the
report.
-' Before going into the details of dance halls, aniusement parks,
nickel theaters and other places where Tempta'tipn lies in wait for'
Youth, it -will be well to read, the introduction of '.the Commission
to this part of the 'report. "It 'follows: '
"CHILD PROTECTION AND EDUCATION"
" "Tthe problem of social .vice, cannot be solved by any sho'rt and
a s,ure method. The efforts tq protect children from evil influence
require the consideration of many problems. The greatest influence
in the child's-life is RELIGION." - -
