POLICE AND CORONER
DEFIED BY VERMILYA
Mrs. Louise Vermilya today
refused to attend the coroner's in
quest over the body of Policeman
Arthur Bissonette, with whose
murder she is charged.
And she made that stick, too,
by having- physicians pronounce
her too weak to be taken to the
inquest, which was to have been
held at the Harrison street sta
tion. As a result the inquest has
been postponed until November
27, at 10 a. m.
"I shouldn't have gdne any
way," said Mrs. Vermilya after
the physicians' had pronounced
her too ill to be moved. "The cor
oner can't make me attend the in7
quest if Ilon't want to, and that's
all there is to it."
Coroner Hoffman- says that
Were Mrs. Vermilya in good phy
sical health, he would demon
strate to her that, he could make
her attend the inquest, but was
forced to throw up 'his hands at
the report of Drs. Joseph Spring
er and Thomas A. Hogan.
The physicians said that mov
ing Mrs. Vermilya might te
dangerous.
"She is suffering from a valvu
lar disease of the heart as well as
'a hemorrhage of the heart that
always appears in arsenical pois
oning. She might be none the
worse for moving, and then again,
she "might be a great deal the.
worse." '
