THE BURGLARS' PLEA FOR
THE RULE OF REASON
-"Mr. President: We, the biir
glars of the United States, beg to
call your attention to a grievance.
"For years we have suffered in
justice at the hands of the couTts.
There is a law which', by its terms,
prohibits every combination for
the commission of burglary. We
most respectfulljr ask that 'the
rule of reason' be applied. We
submit that the law should be
construed to prohibit only unrea

with a record which will assure us
that he will sympathize with our
efforts to rob the public to a rea
"We need not present our
argument in favor 'of our business
it is a natural development of
our civilization. If we have not
established as many colleges and
libraries as the trust magnates, it
is because we have been hamper

urged upon the courts by dema-J

peace who have appealed to the
passions of the mob and arrayed
the people against us.
"Knowing of your sense of fair

have done for the trusts, we cher

will put us on the highway to the
prosperity which the trusts now
enjoy. Respectfully, etc.,

A LITTLE ROW ABOUTTHE
BIG PRIZE FIGHT
Reno, Nev., Feb. 8. Maybe the
2bhnson-Flynn fight wont be
pulled off in Nevada after all.
The people of Nevada are just
beginning to get 'real peevish
about that fight, and it is said
that Governor Oddie has receiv
ed so many protests, he is going
to ask the legislature to repeal the
present fight law.
It isn't that the people of Ne
vada object to prize fighting.
They like prize fighting. But the
people of Nevada hate to get
stung. And theyhave been watch
ing the recent operations of Fight
Promoter Curley in connection
with the Johnson-Flynn fight,
and have decided they are about
to be stung.
Curley has been looking for a
place to hold the fight that will
be 'just over the line from Utah.
Nevada figures that if Curley has
his way, Utah will get all the fin
ancial "benefit of the fight, and
Nevada will get the dirty end of
tfte stick the odium of having
permitted the fight.
Wherefor the holler.
When you stop to figure what
you would have had if such and
such a thing had not happened
you are making matters just that
