A member might drop out any
month he pleased and he might
re-enter the club any month he
pleased, upon payment of the
monthly $1.50. Any male above
5 might join.
Felix said he would guarantee
that, with the funds derived from
"the fees, each member should re
ceive medical treatment, at the
expense of the lodge, and also an
education in a school which the
lodge would conduct.
Today the club numbers 28,000
members. It has 10 small, ex
clusive hospitals, where its sick
members are cared for. It- has a
club building, the finest in Ha
vana, worth $750,000. It con
ducts a free school, attended by
600 children of its members, and
where the members themselves
are taught stenognr draw
ing, sculpture and 7 .her sub
jects, including inst antal mu
sic. It has a gigantic gymnasium
that will accommodate 500
youths, at one time, with the best
athletic instructors than money
can secure.
Twice a month, in the great,
high ceilinged marble ballroom,
which is over a block long and a
third of a block wide, it gives a
ball, which is attended by every
body who can get in, including
the members of the most aristo
cratic sections of society. Its en
tire propertv is worth nearly
$2,000,000. '
Employer and employes rub
elbows in the dance, for several
years ago the clerks' club swal
lowed up- a club which the mer- i
chants had formed.
Felix Gracia, the "crazy
youth," is older now. The club
keeps him in Europe, or wherever
else he pleases to be, preaching
his doctrine, which in simple
words, is this:

YOUNG GIRL HAS QUEER
EXPERIENCE
Kidnaped from the door of the
hospital where she was being tak
en for an operation for appendi
citis, is the experience of Ger
trude Clark, 19, orphan of High
brothers and sisters are in dis
pute as to who shall have custody
of her. The girl was held for a
week by one set of relatives after
she had been taken from those in
custody of her, as the carriage
bearing her to the hospital in
Eyanston stopped before the in
stitution. Dr. J. P.O'. .eill, the girl's phy
sician interceded and informed
the family factions that an oper
ation was urgently necessary.
The girl was then surrendered to
the hospital and is today slowly
recovering from the operation.
