TO PRY DEEP INTO THE
Albany, N. Y., Feb. 21. "The
Brandt case is not 'dead unless
Commissioner Hand is dead,"
said Gov. Dix today. "I have not
seen Commissioner Hand yet, but
understand he is to come here. I
have talked the matter over with
Attorney General Carmody, and
he is now going over the testi
mony, and I expect he will make
some recommendation to me
later. I want a full and complete
investigation, and believe Mr.
Hand will have one. I can do
nothing further until I get his re
port. I may say, however, that
the matter is going through un
der his direction."
Gov. Dix's statement resulted
from the postponement of the in

'to Mortimer Schiff and his attor

declaring that by so doing theyp
would become immune from
prosecution for alleged conspir

Brandt to prison for 30 years.
Commissioner Hand refused to
make a decision, and said he
would put the matter up to the
governor for action.

But what's a poor girl to do
