WHAT'S MATTER WITH
LANDIS WEAKENING?
Judge Landis, who bravely
socked that $29,000,000 fine on
Rockefeller & Co , must be "going
back."
With a gang of loan sharks in
his court at Chicago, he said:
"We must 11 admit that porch
climbers and burglars are perfect
gentlemen compared with these
preying persons who are in the
salary loan business. It is a ques
tion in my mind whether any
lawyer will be permitted to prac
tice in my court who continual
ly, from day to day, is in any way
affiliated with these nefarious
loan men." x
Why any question about it,
Judge? You know that these
shysters prey upon the "preying
persons", both sharks and shys
ter fattening upon the awful ne
cessities of the poor. Why not
put doubt behind you, judge, and
clean your honorable court of the
vermin ?
If these so-called lawyers were
indeed porch climbers or burg
lars, would you let them infest
your court? Certainly not.
Let us tell you right here,
Judge, that the honorable pro
fession of the law is fast becom
ing a horrible stench in the nos
trils of justice-loving people of all
colors, breeds, vocations and con- J
ditions of life, and that) thenl
could be' nothing better for the
shysters of the honorable judges
whip from the halls of justice of
defending extortion and defeat
ing justice.
Why, Judge, the boss of the
toughest gambling den inyour
Chicago district will refuse to
let known, habitual crooks play
in his place. Are the ethics of
your honorable profession and
honorable court lower than that?
The sharks and their lawyers
are tearing to pieces men, wom
en and their homes, with your
court as the shamble, Judge. Is
there any question as tp what a
wise, courageous and just judge
should do? ,'
