ONE RAILROAD EMPLOYE1
KILLED EVERY 2 HOURS
Washington, April 8. Every
six minutes, day and night, a rail
road employe is killed or injured.
Every two hours one is killed.
This startling statement was
made this afternoon by Senator
Chamberlain, addressing the Sen
ate in behalf of the new employ
ers' liability bill.
"These figures are appalling,"
he said. "No one can wonder that
employes engaged in all forms of
dangerous work demand a change
in the laws, which force the bur
den of accidents upon the work
ingmen and' their families, the
ones least able to bear them.
"Nowadays the feeling is aris- :
ing that every business should
bear-the burden, should pay the
price, of every industrial accident
where human beings are involv
ed, just as it .always has done
when a piece of machinery is
