WHY ARE MONEY KINGS HOLDING FROM: THE PEOPLE
THE REAk TRUTH ABOUT THE TITANIC DISASTER?
Why is it that the kings of money are banded together to sup
press the news of the tragedy of the Titanic?
What was there in the manner of that tragedy, what was there
in itS cause, so hideousj and so frightful that the multi-millionaire
owners of the White Star Line are afraid to let the world know?
The attempt to suppress the news has been going on from the
beginning.
v It was known to financiers Monday morning that the Titanic
had sunk. But the world was not permitted to know, the relatives
of the victims were not permitted to know, for twenty-four long
hours of anxiety.
''The officials of the White Star Line say this was done because
the news was not then certain, and they did not wish to needlessly
alarm the world. This is a poor excuse. '
Yesterday afternoon, the great banking house of J. P4 Morgan
Company, rulers of Wall street, sent a message to the Cunard line
offices ordering them to exclude all press representatives from the
pier of the Cunard line when the Carpathia with its pitiful band of
survivors is 'docked. ' ' "
J. P. Morgan and Company do not own the Cunard line. But
they are heavily, interested in the White Star Line.
All yesterday afternoon, all night long, and alf this morning,
the Carpathia hasflatly refused to give any information of the dis
aster to the Unite'd States cruisers sent by the president of 'the
United States to get the news.
The Carpathia undoubtedly has taken this extraordinary course
at the command of Bruce Ismay, managing director of the White
Star Line, who will go to his grave bearing the stigma that he alone
of all the men of vast fortune aboard the Titanic was 'aved with
the women and children'' from the nking giant of the sea that he
himself .owned.
What is there to hide? What is it that the White Star officials
and Bruce Ismay, the coward, are so fearful of permitting the pub
lic to know? '
This is no question of yellow journalism, of the lust for lurid
news.
The world has a right to know what happened in the most awful
disaster of the sea in all history.
The world hasa right to know what caused the disaster. The
world has a right to know WHO caused the disaster. The world
has a right to the knowledge that will enable it to protect itself, from
