AMERICAN GIRL IS SOME

Detroit, Mich., May IS. Miss
Rose Pitinoff, 17 years old, de
clared "by Prof. Sargent to be the
most perfectly developed girl in
the United States, yesterday
broke the mile swimming record
in the D&troit river, going the dis
tance in 23 minutes 45 seconds,
shattering the former mark of
Miss Pitinoff might have set an
even lower mark but for the fact
that she was forced to go to the
assistance of C A. Woodward,
a Detroit man, who tried to swini
with her. He was seized with
cramps w.hen half the distance
had been completed, and Miss
Pitinoff , supported him in the
water until the arrival of a boat.
The new champion will make
an attempt to swim the English
channel this- summer, according
to her present plans. ..Though
shattering the mile record, Miss
Pitinoff is better when swimming
a greater distance, and lays claim
to being the champion long dis
tance swimmer of this country
She is a marvel of physical
strength and endurance, as she.
proved yesterday by both break
ing tle record and rescuing a
' Took the Pups.

ney H. Stahl, and in her suit for
divorce she testified that the man
who had sworn to love, honor and
protect her had replied-
