The Collins brothers were born
in England. Charles went to sea
when he was twelve and was not
heard from for 25 years. Then
he wrote 'saying he had been un
willing to communicate with' his
people until he had succeeded. He
was then, living in California and
Henry W. Collins, the brother
who conducts the quaint book
shop here repbeji. telling Charles;
of the death of then- parents and
begging him to keep up the cor
respondence. But the fire swegt away the
fortune Charles had accumulated,
his marriage failed and he again"
took to the sea in 1875.
Later he made his Home near
Porrtona; Cal. Being a man of
culture he frequently came to LoS
Angeles and purchased books
from his brother.
