BANDITS REAP HARVEST
While Chicago's police force
was busy last night "protecting"'
trust newspapers, and assisting in
'distribution of those sheets, a
score of robberies were reported
by citizens to various police sta
tions. No arrests were made.
Three bandits held up citizens
in the doorways of their homes.
The three men rang the bell at
the home of JF. C. Powers, 5050
Forestville avenue. When Pow
ers' opened the door they covered
him with a revolver and took his
watch, stickpin and money. Loss
Charles Stevens was next. He
was held up as he was 'entering
hjs home, 4421 Greenwood ave
nue. At watch vahied at $50, dia
mond pin worth $40 and $45 in
cash was taken.
One robber, working by him
self, stuck .up three cafes in 30
misutes, collected SICK) in loot.
He took $40 frpm George
Fritz, 4071 Elston avenue, and
when the saloonkeeper followed
him, the robber drew a gun and
shot his victim.
After laking some money from
Frank. Latta, whose saloon is at
3932 Elston avenue, the locked
Latta in .the icebox,
Charles Bruech, 4201 Elston
avenue, was visited, but refused
to pay toll, and chased the man
from the place with a knife.
HANNON DIES OF WOUND.
Patrick Hannon of the Freight
Handlers' Union, who, with Geo.
Weisling, was shot by John De
luca, a strikebreaker in the em
ploy of the Burlington, Saturday
night, died of his wounds.
The funeral of Hannon will be
held tomorrow. Every one of the
4,000 members of the Freight
Handlers' Union will attend it.
Weisling's funeral, which was
held Tuesday, was one of the
most impressive ever held in Chi
cago. Hannon's home was at 2932
Deluca is held at the Maxwell
Street; Police Station.
SHOT BY DIVORCED WIFE.
William O. Miller, railroad em
ploye, shot and seridusly wound
ed this morning by divorced wife,
Mrs. Ellen Miller, at her home,
2453 Racine avenue.
IWoman was arrested. Miller
was taken to AlexianBrothers'
Hospital. He will recover.
Mrs. Miller declares -that her
