PERJURY IN MURDER CASE
New York, July 25. John J.
Reisler, "John the Barber," was
held for perjury this afternoon
after testifying before the coro
ner's jury investigating the Ros
enthal murder.
Reisler's testimony before the
coroner completely reversed what
he had told District Attorney
Whitman. According to, his
story to Whitman, Reisler saw
"Bridgey" Weber, one of the
gamblers arrested, running from
the Hotel Metropole immediate
ly after Rosenthal was murdered.
This afternoon he swore before
the coroner's jury that he could
not remember having seen Web
ber that night. Whitman asked
that the coroner's and grand jury
investigations be postponed, and
will attempt to uncover the rea
sons that caused Reisler's loss of
memory.
' The postponing df the grand
jury hearing prevented Police
Lieut. Becker, the man accused
by Rosenthal, ot being a silent
.partner in his gambling house,
and thought to know something
"of the murderers, telling his
s.tory on the witness stand. Con
trary to the advice of his attor
ney, Becker has decided to waive
immunity and testify before the
grand jury.
Harry Vallon's alibi has been
punctured by the affidavit of
"Chick" Beebe that Vallon was at
the Metropole within ten mfnutes
of the murder. The rest of the
occupants of the murder car are
alleged to "be in New York, Dis
trict Attorney, Whitman declar
ing he had information that; they
had been seen on the streets.

further, and referring to the judge
as a "censor," President Gom

the recent sentencing of Gompqrs,
Mitchell and Morrison, in a sign

"Justice Wright discloses the
mental attitude of a bygone age,
when the masters owned the
