Bobby Byrne figured in the
winning run' each game. In the
first he singled and scored on two
infield outs. In the second he
scored Wilson with a single after
the latter had reached second on
Doolan's error.
Doolan poled four hits in the
two games.
Camnitz outpitched Moore in
the first, but in the second Hen
drix and Alexander fought an
even battle, each allowing six
hits.
Jack Johnson has signed to
meet Joe Jeannette in a ten-round
battle before the St. Nicholas A.
C, New York, Sept. 25. Johnson
is to receive $25,000 cash, with
the privilege of taking 50 per cent
of the gros"s receipts.
"One Round" Hogan has called
off his fight with Willie -Ritchie,
slated for Fritiay night at "Frisco.
Hogan caught a severe cord and
developed a high fever.
Cubs have purchased Fred
Toney and Grover Laudermilk,
pitchers, from Louisville. Toney
has been going great since the
Cubs released him to the Col
onels. Chance believes he will aid
West Siders in the final dash.
Yesterday it was Tom Shar
key. Today Bat Nelson matches
himself to fight Steve Ketchell in
St. Joseph, Mich., Labor Day. '
Manager Wolverton of New
York was indefinitely suspended
for arguing with Ump Egan.

Remedy for Heartburn.
Heartburn is one of the signals
which the stomach gives that it
has been overloaded or supplied
with some food material which
cannot be digested. The sensible
1 person who believes in prevention
rather than cure heeds this first
warning and seeks a simple rem
edy at once.
A corrective which will bring
almost immediate relief, is com
posed of thg following mixture:
Juice of one orange, water and
lump of sugar to flavor; and in
proportion to the acidity of the
orange, about half a teaspoonful
of baking , soda. Dissolve the
sugar in the water, add the
orange juice. Then put in the
soda. Stir and drink while ef
fervescing. Take the mixture half an hour
before breakfast for three or four
days in succession.

Baked Hominy Mash enough
left-over hominy to fill an ordi
nary baking dish, after all lumps
are eliminated. Add two eggs,
one tablespoon of flour, with one
teaspoon of baking powder,' salt,
pepper and about half a cup of
milk, to make a stiff batter. Put
all this in a dish and bake three
quarters of an hour.
