DARROW NOT GUILTY.
Los Angeles, Ca., Aug. 17.
Clarence Sr -Darrow was acquitted
of the charge of bribing jurors in
the McNamara-case this" morning.
The jury brought in its verdict
at 9:55 a. m.having been out 37
The scene when the verdict
was announced was dramatic.

Darrow, who had been pacing
nervously up and down the room,
stopped short" in his walk as the
jurymen filed into their box and
JudgeHutton mounted the bench.
Mrs. Darrow, who. was hysterical,
trembled in her husband's arms.
The silense was tense when the
court asked Foreman, M. R. Wil
liams of the jury for the verdict
. "Not guilty," said Williams.
Cheers and wild applause fol
lowed. Friends of Darrow crowd
ed around to congratulate him.
Juror Dunbar slappedparrow on
the back and cried : "Mr. DarrowJ
this is the happiest moment of my
life." "The crowd became so great
that Darrow, with his wife in his
arms, was swept back against the
wall near Judge Hutton's cham
bers. District Attorney Fredericks is
undecided whether the charge
against Darrow of "bribing Juror
Bain will be pushed. It is set for;
trial at 2 p. m. next Monday.

William W. Freeland of the:

agency, 102 S. Canal St., was ar
raigned in the Desplaines street
court today, charged with obtain-,
ing. money under false pretenses.
He was arrested on a warrant
sworn out by Sam Marcus, 1840
Yeaton av., and J. Swartz, 1314 S.
Sangamon st. They claim they,
were duped by an offer of a job in

inside. Freeland was granted a
continuance until Aug. 20.
