Vienna, Sept 20. The univer
sal franchise party of Hungary is
liable to cause a first class fight
here, and trouble between Aus
tria and their own country.
Two bodies of 60 delegates,
from the parliaments of each
country, are to meet here tomor
row. The suffragists say they
also will be there, and will con
tinue the fight they began at
The meeting place of the Hun
garian delegation here is Hun
garian territory, and the Austrian
authorities have no jurisdiction.
Hungary is sending police -to keep
order, but the suffr agists are like
ly to be too strong-for them.
Then if the Austrian police
butt in, there will be fireworks,
because "Hungarians always have
been jealous of Austria. Interfer
ence in'what they consider "their
private affair, might even lead to
an attempt to secede from the
' i -Paris, Sept. 20. Two' police
men were strolling" along the
Champs Elysees when they saw a
young dude, wearing the rosette
of the legion of honor, approach
ing. - "Aha!" said one, "that-boy is

legion. Letus arrest him."
So the two cops clanked their
swords and stopped the- dude. ,
"You are not a chevalier of the'
legion of honor," said one. "You
are too young."

lalier," said the jdude. "I am higK-
er than that."
"Ah! an officer, perhaps?" said
the policeman, with all the sar
casm he could command.
"Higher than that," said vthe
"Oh, you are doubtless a com
mander' said the gendarme.
"Higher than that," said the
"Oh, I see," said the cop, mak
ing a sweeping bow, "you have
the grand cross. This is too
much. You will come to the sta
tion and explain it to the prefect."
The dude went. At the station
he handtd the prefect his card.
He was ex-King Manuel of Por
tugal. The two gendarmes are won
dering how much their jobs are
worth today.

and read as follows :

cation read :
"Warning r Put Dougherty
papers in bank safety vault.
