ent grand jury vice investigation.
There is nothing in the world
Chicago needs more today than a
thorough investigation of vice.
But there are too many peculiar
circumstances in connection with
the present grand jury affair.
Here are some of them:

Lawson never yet has been
known to do anything civically
virtuous without having some ul

This is all right if the investi
gation is to be the heads of the
police, namely Mayor Harrison
and Chief McWeeny.
It is not at all all right if it is

lice in which a few captains and
lieutenants are to be the goats, as
has happened heretofore in Chi
There never yet was a police"
captain who did not conduct his
office just as the administration
wanted it conducted. He'd lose
his job the minute he did.
Mayor Harrison seems to have
placed himself in the unfortunate
position of giving out conflicting
interviews in connection with the

not ask him about this. But here
