OURSTATE'S ATTORNEY'S OFFICE IN AGAIN; SAME
OLD W. R. FETZER OF THE NOBLE CASE, TOO
One of the strangest things in
' Chicago is the way the state's at-
torney's office works its wonders
to perform.
Last Monday, Mrs. Lavenzia
Damon, 3844 Ellis street, had her
husband, K W. Damon, a'rrested
after he had beaten and choked
her.
Mrs. Damon then told her
story, which is as follows:
She was married to'Damon last
June 14. "Since that time, Damon
has not worked. Mrs. Damon
'ran a rooming house, and thus
made enough money to buy bread
and butter with.
On two occasions she was forc
ed to borrow money in order to
get her husband but of trouble,
once when he passed a bad check,
and once when he omitted to turn
in commissions he collected for
Swift & Co.
T)ien she was taken ill, and was
forced to go to the hospital,
where an operation was per
formed. When she returned from the
hospital she found her husband in
possession of the rooming house
and making all the collections
from the roomers.
When she objected io his doing
this, Damon turned upon her and
beat her and choked her.
The police were so impressed
by Mrs. Damon's story that they
turned the case, over to the state's
attorney that Damon might be
prosecutea for wife abandon
ment. The case was called before
Judge Gemmill in the Court of
Domestic Relations today. As
sistant State's Attorney W. R.
Fetzer appeared to "prosecute"
Damon.
This is that same Fetzer who
was ordered to prosecute Car
lotta Noble's seduction case
against Columbus ("Jack") Cu
neo, and vyho instead prosecuted
Carlotta Noble's mother.
Apparently this is a habit of
Fetzer's, because it is just in line
with what he did in the court of
Domestic Relations today.
Fetzer did not call Damon to
the stand and question him about
beating up his wife,, nor about
his refusal to support his wife,
nor about his wife supporting
him.
Instead Fetzer put Mrs. Damon
on the stand and began a gruel
ling inquisition of her as to her
borrowing money from a man
