PORTER ATTACKS WOMAN
Pueblo, Col., Nov. 30. Miss
Alma Smith, 20 years old, of
Washington, Ia.nis in a hospital
here suffering from nervous pros
tration. George Wilcox qf St. Louis,
Pullman porter on a Rio Grande
train, is in the county jail, tcharg-
ed with an attempted assault on
Miss Smith. "
Miss Smith was aupassenger on
the Pullman pf which Wilcox was
porter. She was on-her way to
California. The train arrived here
early this morning.
Last night the other passen
gers were awakened by the
screams of MTss Smith. They ran
to her rescue. ,
"The porter!" she screamed.
. "The porter! He attacked me."
The passengers caught Wilcox
as he was preparing to jump from
the train. They pinned him to the
floor and half killed him in their
Miss Smith became hysterical,
and it was some time before she
could tell her story.
"I was awakened by a hand on
my legs," she said. "1 though at
first it was just someone who had
mistaken thejr berth.
"Thqn, I realized that someone
was trying to crawl into my
berth. I twisted around and saw
the porter's face, leering at me.
. "Then I screamed and he fled."
Wilcox says he will have no
trouble in proving his innocence.
