Why is no thorough official ia vestigation being made of the big elevaior accident in Siegel, Coop er & Co.'s store last Saturday be ing made? J. H. Ba'sch, general manager of the Siegel-Cooper store, first adrftltted there was an apcidenf, and then-denied it to the police. Is this right in view of the fact that Siegel, Cooper & Co. have a. contract with an undertaker? Have not the people a right to a full inquiry into an accident in a department store which has a contract with an undqrtaker? The Day Book uncovered the fact of the Siegel-Cooper con tract with Undertaker Boydston. It has not yet uncovered any rea son, for that contract. But there must be a reason, and a good reason. The finances of big" department stores are well managed, well looked after. Big department stores do not make contracts with anyone un less there is good reason for such a contract.
