When ladies who wrote of their right to the vote
Were dowdy and frumpy in dress,
When each suffragette whom one noticed or met
Was mannish in type, more or less,
We laughed at the Cause without let-up or pause,
We jabbed it with pencil and pen;
Though earnest its friends in their aims and their ends,
They didn't "get over" with men.
But now that each peach has a suffragette speech
Some place in the back of her head,
And each suffragette is the swellest thing yet
With all of her dowdiness fled,
WTe shout "Hip! Hooray!" when she ambles our way,
She banishesvall of our frowns,
And we help her, you'll note, when she asks for the vote
In the latest of headgear and gowns.
MORAL.
Put your faith and your trust in a cause that is just
To share in the suffrage with Man;
But do not despise looking good to the eyes,
And dress just as well as you can !
