AMERICAN TREATED BY
DR. FRIEDMANN
Berlin, Jan. 10. Mrs. Walter
S. Powell, of Boston, today was
inoculated with the Friedmann
tuberculosis bacilli.
She is the first American to be
treated by Dr. Friedmann, dis
coverer of the purported cure for
consumption.
Mrs. Powell's husband has
promised to keep Americans in
formed of the results of the treat
ment in his 'wife's case through
the press.
Dr. Friedmann has been bitter
ly criticized by newspapers for re
fusing to give away any of his
bacilli. He explained today that
the administration of the cure
was a delicate technical operation,
which required instruction he had
not yet had time to give.
Friedmann promised -to give
the government every opportun
ity to investigate his cure, but
said that three months should be
devoted to, a thorough inquiry.
